I assume you mean loud.

I've not fired mine up yet. Hmmm...

Anyone got pics of a genny box yet?

How did you plumb the exahust so it won't heat up the stylofoam and melt down? I believe the muffler gets quite hot as well

The exhaust I am going to cut a circular hole in the styro, and put flex duct to the outside of the box. As far as the muffler, it is far enough away from the side that it wont melt. Maybe in a week when I Finnish the electrical, I will run it for a whole day to test it out.

I would suggest plumbing the intake to the outside of the box so it can get cold air.. I ran mine for half and hour and the side grill seemed to radiate a bit of heat. Monitor the internal temperature carefully when you test it since the stylo is meant to keep in the temperature inside.

Nice!

Did you put wheels/castors on the bottom?

I'm thinking of making something like a moving dolly to attack to the bottom, then make sides and a top (leaving the bottom open for air (and noise I guess))

PS. I say I'll do that, but reality is I'll probably take forever to do it.

I say make a triangle roof for the snow and a chimney for the exhaust ;)

but that's a really cool box, nice!

Vince---no, it is stationary. I just run a cord over to the panel that is 5 feet away.

Perry----yes, just haven't done it yet

Art----I am also going to shingle the roof, put raingutters with downspouts and a french drain, and plant shrubs all around. And at Christmas, I am going to wrap it with Lights:beer:

Thanks for the compliments.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you want to be using that type of styrofoam for sound insulation. Those are not designed for accoustic dampening. Plus you don't want to be insulating the heat also which is really what that is designed for. You want accoustic foam and a lot of ventalation.

Thanks for the tips Andy, I will have to try and switch it out for soft house type insulation and see if it make it any quieter. as for the heat i think any kind of insulation will hold the heat in, but im not finnished yet, i am going to drill a 4" hole in the side and install a fan that plugs into the genny so when it is running, so will the fan.

Anyone else going to build an enclosure?

I am going to build one once I get some darn wheels on there, I can barely lift it out of my shed.. I am interested in how much sound you can reduce with your box. I have read the engine is emitting about 70db but the exhaust only 56db which is very minimal.

I may be getting acoustical foam from mcmaster, the foam might cost more then the generator though (lol) Has anyone been to sound testing chambers with walls lined with the bumpy foam, you can stick your head in and scream your head off and barely hear yourself..

some tips

Check your rebate status here:

For a more reliable storage I have just let it run and shut off the fuel valve and wait until it stall out, so it won't foul out the carbeurator.. I also put some Sta-bil in the gas tank. But you might know this already..

check out ebay to save money. I was thinking about sound proofing the baby room and its way cheaper on ebay.

nothing yet, but at least they received my rebate request. I checked the status with that link that xinumaster posted.

PS. I haven't even taken the genny out of the box yet.

Same here Vince. They received my rebate but no word as of yet on when it's shipping. If they don't send my rebate soon, I will return the generator.

This is the status I get

We have received your submission and it is being processed. The estimated mail date for your check is 27-Jun-2008.

Seems like your one step ahead of me. All I get is, "We have received your submission and it is being processed".

They are trying to hose me. I went into the wrong store for the pickup and they just did it there. What they didn't tell me was because they did this it processed 1 day to late and now it is showing I don't qualify for the rebate.

Sounds like I get to spend some quality time on the phone.
