Got the call from the wife today. Lola the clownfish is dead. I checked the water parms and all the other fish are doing fine. We had her for 4 months and was doing fine when I left for work.

She was the boss of the tank and always had first dibs on food.

Is it possible it was just her time?

ocellaris clownfish can live 8 years or more in captivity so unless she was fully matured 3+ inches it is unlikely that she passed of old age. Very sorry to hear about your loss though.

She was near 3 inches. Much larger than the male who is just over an inch.

Other fish in the tank: Male Osc Clown, 1-Firefish, 1-Yellowheaded Sleeper goby, a few hermits and a few snails.

3" is about their adult size. Maybe 3.5" at most. Unless you know when the clown hatched there's no way of knowing how old the fish was. It could have been a year old or it could have been eight years old.

Not likely that a fish will look fine in the morning and then die of old age in the afternoon, though. He wasn't gasping for air or anything, was he? Panting as if out of breath?

If it was wild caught is could have been caught with cyanide. If so theyre just a ticking time bomb :( Check with your LFS and ask where they got it

:lolspin: ^ we have ways to make you talk!

Can't say either way if it was breathing hard in the morning before I left or not. If I remember correctly all was well in the morning. I can check w/the LFS to see how they are captured/where they get their fish from.
