Osmolator 3155 & Kalk Reactor

Tunze Man,

What is the shortest duration the osmolator will kick on for? It seems like in most cases, the shortest duration for top off is about 10 seconds. In this time span I top off about a cup of water give or take. Does this sound right? I'm wondering if there is any way to restrict the flow and maybe double or triple the time it takes to dispense the same amount of liquid. Since I'm going through a kalk reactor, dosing a cup at a time seems like a little too much at once.. I don't have a pH meter so I really can't tell what impact it has on pH, but just make an assumption that it's probably larger than I'd like.

If 10 seconds or so is about the minimum 'on-time', I don't think i'll be able to dispense less than a cup even if I use another set of baffles in my sump to reduce the area affected by evap (add a last baffle so that the water level decreases height quickly in comparison). However, if there is any way to reduce the on-time to 5 seconds or so along with the baffles, or perhaps some kind of restrictor system in the return line I should be able to swing this in my favor at least a little bit.. no?

Thanks!
Jim

You cannot alter the timing. You could attempt to reduce the voltage on the variable transformer but below 9V it can be quirky- it is still worthwhile to try 7.5V if you will be around to watch the unit for a weekend. Lowering the voltage will weeken the pump and lower the rate. I think even at 12V one cup after a kalkdispenser in 10sec is optimistic- perhaps a 1/2cup and I doubt this would have an ill effect.

Thanks Roger,

My estimates were though short piping and not actually feeding through the reactor, I'm sure they'll have some effect.

On another note, I like the mounting bracketry, reminds me of my younger days and Legos. :)

Do you have any experience or know of any other folks using the 3155 along with Kalk reactors (not the Tunze dispenser model)? I've been digging for some more information on reefcentral but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of anecdotal info on that combo.

Thanks again! Next up is a Stream or two to replace the 4 powerheads scattered around my tank (trying to reduce heat).

Try moonpod- I think he is using the MRC reactor with success. You might also ask Andy at MRC- several of his customers have asked me about this and he might have some feedback.
