osmolator pump problems

My pump has begun to have problems. It can be purged of air and will "sputter" if you will until the controller times out befor the top off point is reached. Do I need to order a new pump, and if so what is the part number?

Thanks in advance.

I don't understand. Is it just jammed with air or does the motor not work? They do occasionally get jammed with an air bubble if they run dry and need to be tipped up to let the air escape.

No air as I have made sure it is purged. It will start up...stop...start...and will time out before the full level is reached. I will unplug the controller...plug back in, go to the pump and invert to make sure there is no air and the above situation repeats itself.

Oh, OK. The pump is dying. How old is the pump? I would stop using it as the pump probably has a breached seal and while it is a slight risk it is possible the water will contain some copper. Throw out the water and wait for a new pump.

As bad as it sounds, I don't remember. I think around a year. What is the part number and can I readily find it on MD?

Thanks

Roger, thank you again for the replacement pump. However, I am afraid my problems continue. I installed the new pump and it worked. I did find that it was much louder than the previous one and much less flow out of the hose. I did make sure that all air was sparged from the pump. It continued to operate for several days and then stoped. The controller seems to be functioning normal. If I unplug to reset, plug back in it will attempt to fill (orange light) but no pump running. I checked the conections, etc. and then it will time out and go to flashing red.

Any suggestions? What do you make of the pump being sinificantly louder the the previous?

Thanks in advance.

The pump could have air in the pump cavity, they often are louder the first few days. I just changed mine and it was pretty loud for a day or two and now it is back to normal.

Is the pump connector rusted at all? I have occasionally found the wires from the controller to the connector terminal are badly oxidized and black inside. In that case that wire needs to be changed. I would check the connection for rust and if that isn't it if you send it to me I'll get it back ASAP and working.

I gave the pump the underwater inverted shake, shake, shake several times, so definitely no air.

The conections are clean as a whistle and tight. Remember, the pump was working...then not. Where should I send it to?

Thanks.

I am also having a problem with my osmolator pump. It is 4 months old and for the last couple of weeks it has gotten very noisy (sounds like a buzzer). What do you suggest?

thanks,
Rich

In jon's case my concern is that it doesn't work. The pumps make noise and it comes and goes, I have had osmolators for a few years and sometimes they just get a bit noisy, some minerals or air in the pump can be the cause (try tipping it for air or soaking it in vinegar for minerals if you add anything to the bucket) and sometimes it is just vibrataing against something and if you suspend it by the cable so it isn't touching anything that helps greatly. If it is unbearable wrap it in some foam.

Roger,

Before disconecting the pump, I checked everything again. All conections secure and clean. I did notice however that when connecting power back to the controller, the orange light would come on (normal) but the green light would dimely light and flicker some...then go out. The orange would contiunue to be on until the controller would time out...then flashing red.

Do you think there may be something to this?

Thanks.

Roger,

I have the pump suspended, did a vinegar soak, and it still sounds like the wrong answer on a game show.
Sound proofing the pump in foam is not something that I would not like to do for a top quality piece of equipment. Is there another pump that you recommend using to replace this one?

thanks,
Rich

I can send a replacement pump if you return that one to me. However, past experience is noise problems with this pump come and go.

My controller started doing this yesterday... When I plug it in, the pump runs but it doesn't seem to run at full power. The green light flickers, the orange turns off for half a second then it comes back on. Eventually the pump seems to lose enough speed where it just halts. I tried soaking it in vinegar for a while, but that didn't change it.

I've had it on my tank for about a year and three months, and the problem just started this week. I live about 20 minutes from Premium Aquatics and was going to give them a visit tomorrow to see if they had any in stock. I would hate to buy another, but its already getting annoying refilling my 180. If you find a solution to this, please post here or send me a PM.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,

It is still under warranty and provided this isn't caused because it got wet or the pump isn't damaged by kalkwasser it would be covered. Send it to me and I'll repair or replace it.
