i got certifird for 250 up in crystal river it was about a week paperwork (computer) and 2 dasy in the water with the instructor with no open water dives .
was pretty chincy but got me the card and how not to die speech

but through a dive shop your probably looking around 300-350 give or take.
but well worth the money for good training and to learn how not to die
and emergency recovery ect.

still waiting for the surgery to implant some gills in my throat though

very illegal big fine big money loss of gear and boat bad
but you can take certain fish with a fishing liscence not to say it doesent happen with corals/rocks and other stuff

I heard some story about a guy who was caught taking frags of something while diving and stuffing them in fish to sneak them back in. Talk about a funny story, I wish I could find it again online.
