OT: Anyone into firearms/firing ranges/hunting?

I went to this one for the first time yesterday
http://www.unitedsportsmen.com/

The SKS that my boss brought had a fixed magazine and not removable.

Very friendly atmosphere. $14 all day and you can even leave and come back. They do pistol, rifle and trap/skeet.

Several people we didn't even know ended up trading rifles/pistols. My buddy got to shoot 50 cal (Barrett I think) and I got to try a Kimber 1911. It was great! :)

I been checking out 1911's lately too dots. Still unsure which brand to go with when I have the available funds; Springfield, Kimber, etc. Most stores I see Kimber Pro and CDP models and they look super nice. I recently saw the Springfield Socom II rifle/sniper in .308 and it looks awesome!

HK's make top notch guns too!

Name/Address, really? I been getting all my ammo from WalMart. I heard WalMarts near metro areas don't stock ammo but only the ones away from the bigger city. They are a lot cheaper than most places. $11 for 45 ACP, $10 for 40 S&W and $15 for 100 rounds of 9mm in Winchester or CCI/Blazer. Shoguns shells at WalMart in Fairfield and Vacaville are left out on the shelves for customer self serve.

Everyone makes a 1911 today........

It seems either one store carries the Kimber or the Springfield usually, but not both. Colt still makes a fair piece, and Smith and Wesson who has been reinventing themselves the last few years makes a nice new one with integral laser in the guide rail. Heck, I think Sig makes one as well.

Check that Gun Directory link, and you will see most of them.

The HK P2000 is a great gun, considering I am left handed and the market it tight for lefties, it is perfect for Southpaws. It is FULLY ambitextrous with all the controls, not just a few, on both sides. Very accurate and easy to use. I bought the DA/SA model, and would recommend it to anyone as I have been shooting for over 25 years

Here you go........Being that California is anti gun, and Sacramento is the State capital, it doesn't suprise me........Don't even think of ever trying to apply for a CCW in Sacramento Co or the Bay Area.........you will NEVER get one.

(Good Job Sacramento, all you did was hurt your local business)

By the way, did anyone ever see that old 20/20 episode about Myths/Lies.........there was one on gun control that I found was interesting.

Anyway, Im not trying to start a debate and thought you guys might like to see the links.

Had you guys heard about that new Sacramento Co law making you give your name and address when buying ammo now?
Ya, total B.S. I'm not sure when this goes into effect, but once it does, I will buy my ammo from a store in a neighboring county. No way I'm going to fill out all my information and give my thumbprint for this.

And its too bad that the Great Outdoors on Watt closed and moved to Redding, I thought that was a good store.
When was this? I worked right around the corner from there just last summer. Used to go in there on lunch and look around.

Never bought there (tried to once, but had "issues" with a special order). Prices on many of their firearms in the store seemed pretty decent though.

I heard 30 days after it was passed.

I went there about a month ago on a sunday and it was closed with that note on the door, im sure they have something on the website about it. Too bad, always liked the folks in there.

Yeah, not trying to start a debate either. I saw that you tube clip. I think gun control needs to be re-looked at. Most of America has the right and most states even issue ccw permits. And it seems those states that have them have lower crime rate.

Here's a couple I thought was interesting:

If the bad guys didn't know who may or may not be carrying a gun that would give them second thoughts on posibble victims. Badguys would not go and take a gun test and register it if they intend to use it for crime.

With the ecomony getting worse, so will crime. Every week I hear more and more home robberies from friends, families and co-workers I know. And if the badguys plan on entering your home with you in it then they have nothing to loose.

Yeah, there is no honest criminal. If they keep trying to outlaw guns, only the bad guys will have them.

I used to hunt a little, well just deer and I went duck hunting a couple times

I still have my 30-30 somewhere around here and for the house a 357 mag

Thats total BS about info for ammo.... so is the whole gun control here in california.... you can go to Nevada and get just about anything under the sun just shy of your RPG...

Anyways there is Wild Sports off GreenBack and Main.

I am big into rimfire rifles.. own 3 rimfire rifles along with a few centerfires the rimfires are a 22 Ruger, 22 mag Marlin, and 17hmr CZ .

Nothing better that spending a Sunday on our friends vineyard in Esparto hunting ground squirrels with my modded 17HMR CZ ..anything out to 150-175 is TOAST...off the bench it consistently shoots dime sized groups with Hornady 17 grain rounds.

Its not the power of the rifle, it how well you can shoot it :)

My father belonged to a deer club when i was a kid, and he would take me along on his hunts but the club started to go downhill and became and unsafe mess. he got out before i could get into it. I have been thinking about starting to hunt again, but no one i know is into it and i wouldnt know where to begin :D.

I have .22 rimfire rifle for fun, bolt action 30-30, single shot 12 and 16 gauge rifles, and a .45 Ruger P90 for the house.

I have been thinking about buying a .22 pistol in the next few months and i have alwased liked the Walther P22's. Wondering if anyone has experiance with them?

I'm not sure but I thought they added Walther P22's to the California ban list because it has a threaded barrel for suppresor/silencer. :(

I dont think so, i was checking them out just the other day at the sportsmans warehouse. The actual barrels are not threaded, but the companys that sell the suppresors sell an adapter designed just for the p22s. Pretty soon, they are going to have rubber band guns on the ban list . You gotta love california...

I compete in a 1k tactical every month at sac shooting center, I used to do IDPA with a 1911A1 in the only caliber worth shooting the > .45 acp < ya baby. I reload all my own and have tryed to teach all my boys. The 1k is done with a savage 10FPLE with a Mark 4 leupold 6.5-20 x 50 LR/T . the savage is in .308win. I love relaoding as much as shootin. The challenge of shootin the 1k is what sucked me in.
http://www.sacvalley.org/ lots of great guys at this range, on competition day guys come from the bay and nevada, as its the only 1k range in norcal.
