After numerous days in the hospital, starting out as the stomach flu, then gall bladder, then food poisoning the doctors now think that my Mom has Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever due to a tick bite she received a week ago. Looks like they figured it out from taking a bone marrow sample. Of course, they asked her if she remembers being bitten by any ticks after the fact. Tis the season.

you need some guineas or a peacock if you live out in pacific and rural. My parents have them and it is hard to find a tick around their property, snakes too.

guinea, my wife calls them funny footballs with wings, smarter than a chicken but not a chicken hawk.

Nope... its worse the Lyme Disease. And its fairly common as far as tick born diseases go around here. The good news is that treatment is easy if you act fast. So if you guys get a tick bite and have any rashes or whatnots, PM me sooner rather than later.

I think the key is acting fast, i remember a girl died when I was in 2nd grade because they didn't know what it was until to late.

Oh my, I sure hope your mom get better soon. We go camping alot and the kids, even though they are teens, know I do not mess around when it comes to ticks. We do a check every morning and a very thorough one when we get home.

They started her on antibiotics Wednesday afternoon. She seems to being doing better so far. I just hope that no lasting damage has been done. She ran a fever of 101 to 104 off and on, based on the Tylenol given, for 6 days.

Hey ramtheory, they would like to get some guineas, but they actually live in the city of Wildwood which prohibits having "livestock".

drgabe, please define fast. Thanks

The sooner the less chance of more advanced systemic disease. One week is generally ok, especially since she is getting better so quickly.
