OT: Board Games

Deck builders. Ha. I just gave away all my Overpower cards (almost complete original set) and Star Wars cards - original set, almost complete limited as well.

Nice!

If you're around on Wednesdays, there's a pretty die-hard group of board gamers who play every Wednesday until 10 PM at Millennium Games on W. Henrietta Rd. (In Henrietta Townline Plaza).

I've been showing up regularly and have been playing some incredible board games.

not a board game but some serious fun none the less. the game goes by many names, i've heard it called greedy, zilch, hot dice, and boxcars. i know there's got to be more names.

game rules here: http://zilch.playr.co.uk/rules.php

but we played you have to have 500 points to get on the score board and no minimum to mark points on(vs this version where you have to have 300 points to make them on the score.

all you need are 6 dice, a pen and paper(far better than $60?!?!??!?? i know i'm cheap but that's INSANE!).

have fun.

Board games can be pretty pricey but I will admit that the quality on both Ticket to Ride and Settlers of Catan that I got are top notch. All of the plastic pieces are moulded very well with almost no injection marks. They were not supplied on the injection matrix but came broken out and in individual zip lock bags. The same for Settlers. The boards and the boxes are both nice stocks which I found interesting that the board stock matches the box stock. Something dumb I pay attention to because I'm in printing.

They can be pricey, but most of the good ones retain their value in the used and collectors markets, (especially if they go out of print).

If I play a $60 board game ten (or even twenty) times and enjoy each play with family and friends, I'd say I got a pretty darn good deal! It's cheaper than taking my family out to dinner or to the movies. Plus, we actually talk and interact with each other when we play!:eek1:

Has anyone played this? It's fricken awesome.

Both Ticket to Ride and Settlers of Catan are great gateway games. With many of the designer board games, you really never know who wins until the end of the game when the victory points are tallied.

If you want something quick, yet fun for 2-4 players, check out Love Letter. Games take around 10-15 minutes with four people, less with two. It's a bluffing and deduction game.

Don't pay more than $10 for it though!

Cully, Check out Table Top on You Tube. They play all sorts of games. It's great because you can see a full game played and it helps you make a decision on what to get next. It's hosted by Wil Wheaton - Wesley Crusher from Star Trek Next Generation and Sheldon's (Big Band Theory) hero.

Game over moon pie!

Here is one for Zombicide. Not Table Top but it look like a good instructional.

Race for the Galaxy and Dominion are two games I used to play regularly. I'll also hop on board the Ticket to Ride and Forbidden Island as two gateway games, as I play those with my wife. Pandemic, like Forbidden Island, is a co-operative game which is good when playing with friends and family who might other wise be too competitive. For younger family members, Blokus is a quick easy game.

My daughter and I love Race and Dominion too! My ten year old daughter is my go-to gaming buddy on days other than Wednesdays at Millennium.

I taught her to play The Castles of Burgundy last week. Definitely not a gateway game, but she's hardcore geek like her old man!:bounce2:

my daughter is stuck on candy land, checkers and trouble for now . she is only 7 though. I like to play chess and risk. oh and I forgot about battle ship she loves that one to

Qwirkle is a crowd pleaser. It's kinda like scrabble but with shapes and colors. Sounds super easy but can be very competitive.

Just mentioning it case you wernt aware there are 5/6 different maps of ticket to ride with a few expansion packs its def one of my favorite board games of all time. Risk legacy might be worth looking into as well.

I occasionally play TTR: Europe on my iPhone. My game group has mostly disbanded, but we all play Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer on our iOS devices against one another.
