OT Brett Farve

He has one of the best and strongest arms in history, IMO. He landed in a great place because his head is full of cheese. How many times have you heard him talk of his first several years in the league? Didn't understand any of the plays. His decision making process stunk mostly. Sounds like a fun party guy though.

no way is soriano that high on an all around good player list...yes he can hit, but a 3rd grader could field better than him....jim edmonds on the other hand has like 7 gold glove awards....and can hit to boot...as you guys can tell right now :)

Really, so what. The guy mashes the ball. He more than makes up for his half a dozen plus misplayed balls with his bat, arm and speed over the course of a year. Edmonds has been a great add, but he is what he is. An older player who will need a lot of rest.
 
yeah I will take sorianos +50% BA and better power and speed over edmonds fielding any day of the week. Soriano is also 6 years younger with more good/decent years ahead of him.

if your too slow you look great cause you always have to dive, meanwhile Brain Anderson is camped out under it and gets no recognition for it.
Jim Edmonds ain't nothing special anymore.

ok I lurk around this forum once and a while rarely post but this is very entertaining. Just to set the records strait I am a die hard cardinal and steelers fan so I may be a little partial to jimmy Edmonds but he is a hell of a ball player when he is healthy. is he healthy right now I think he is getting their. He has been a great addition to the cubs but by no means the best player. there are a lot of quality players on the cubs (I can't belive I said that)

As far as farve goes like him or not he is a good ball player, is he over rated maybe a little but he has had a hell of a career. The talks are now that green bay may trade within the division. they are talking bears or Vikings. I can't see him going to the bears but I would love to root for them with him playing for them. I can see him going to the Viking and opening the year with monday night football at lambo with farve starting for the vikes.

ouch green bay what are you doing. you are setting your young quarter back up for a big fall. anything less than last year will be a failure.
 
The guy just needs to learn that people (like myself) are sick and tired of listening to these "will I retire, or won't I retire, looks like I'm returning" garbage b.s. speeches that more and more athletes seem to be spewing lately.

I'm the furthest thing from being a Packer fan, and I have to say that he's almost tarnishing his reputation by having all of this media circus crap going on.

Seeing as how he's on the cover of Madden this year, I think someone needs to let him know about the cover jinx. Might be in his best interests to stay off any kind of professional football field, and his retirement might end the Madden Curse. :lol:

I mean, do we really need a separate ticker at the bottom of ESPN just so we all know what this clownshoe is up to today? It hurts my eyes just seeing it there.

Here are the facts:

1. He retired
2. He changed his mind. He admitted he made a mistake and still want to play. We all make mistakes, he admitted he was wrong and made his apology.
3. He wanted to play for the Packers.
4. Packers said they didn't want him and Brett said he completely understood moving on and if the didn't want him, release him.

Where's the waffling? What should he have done differently (other than retiring in the first place)?

Senior veterans are released all the time out of respect for the player if their current team doesn't want them anymore. Look at how the Broncos are handling the Lynch situation - very classy.

I think "Let me compete" or "Release me" is a very fair and reasonable position.

It's Ted Thompson's ego that's getting the way!

He pulled this last year, then came back. The Packers retooled the team to go in another diriction then Farve changed his mind again. You are right a HUGE EGO did get in the way of this, but it was not Ted Thompson's it was the guy who can not even pronouce his name the way it is spelled.

Ted Thompson's only mistake was in taking a 38 year old man at his word. He said he was going to retire and like a moron Thompson believed an egotistical over paid prima donna man child.
 
but that's the thing - he didn't do this last year. Sure he waffled on giving a full commitment but he never said he wasn't coming back before.

Bret has acknowledged the Packers may have moved on. He never demanded his old job back - he only wanted the chance to compete for it and if that wasn't in the cards, release him.

Maybe he should have waited like every other crybaby athlete that waits until the day before camp to decide they want to retire.
