OT - Bridal Veil falls in Yosemite

This was Friday afternoon. I took a pretty good soaking to get this one:

It was taken at the viewpoint below the falls. I've never really paid attention to how far it actually is. In the fall, when the water is only a trickle, you can scramble up the boulders to the base. This time of year it's an accident waiting to happen.

Beautiful! That's picture postcard material!

If you're ever up in the Columbia Gorge on the Oregon side, check out Multnomah Falls, a high thin stream that's very photogenic.

Everytime I see one of your beautiful Yosemite Pics I start itching to get to Yellowstone. (I live close) A couple more weeks and most of the roads should be open. In the meantime, thanks for helping cure the winter blues.

I like the way you digitally mounted them. Are you just expanding your canvass size and creating a drop shadow? Sorry for the dumb question, still learning PS.

Also, your second picture looks like someone is climbing up that rock face. Isn't there an easier way up? Like a switchback trail? Might tell that guy if there is, he could get hurt doin it that way.

I use a photoshop "action" for the framing.

Just google for "photoshop frame action" - there are lots out available.

To give that climber some perspective of scale, that was shot with a 500mm lens + 1.4 TC on a 1.6x crop camera. Effective magnification is 1120mm

He was WAY up there. Several of his climbing buddies were already "camped" above him about 200 feet. If you can call lashing a tent to the side of a sheer rock wall "camping."

Nice images , brings back lots of memories we used to go there every year been there for all seasons to bad digital wasnt around then, cause I shot lots of film up in good ole Yosemite. As a matter of fact my mother and grandmother had dinner at the Awanhee Hotel believe it was 1980 or 81 and Ansel Adams was the big guest and host if my memory is correct for that dinner dont remember the name of the annual dinner there is a name for it, anyway point being that my mother and grandmother rode the elevator with Ansel Adams and was priviledged to get the chance to speak with him , and he also played the piano at this dinner which was another of his great passions

Beautiful landscape photos Doug! Last time I was there, there was only a few drops of water :(

Perhaps you can play with this photo and bring out more DR and details in the sky to make it more dramatic?

The amount of water varies greatly depending on the time of year.

That one has already been massaged pretty thoroughly Louis. That was about 20 minutes before sunrise and it was VERY dark. That was really as much color as was there.

That being said, I've really only done a first pass on most of the captures.

ou sure are in a beautiful part of the country!

It's still a 3.5 hour drive. My yard looks nothing like that. ;)
