OT: DirecTV or stick with Comcast

Yup. but if you leave them before you complete the 24 months you pay $20 for every month you didn't complete. Not bad considering the price for 100+ hrs HD DVRs. But YOU Don't come out of pocket for anything really.

My upgrade is also free. And I believe if your a new custormer you sometimes get free movie channels for a while or get free sports channels.Something like that, just ask what you can get for free.

I had all the movie for free for a while.

Yeah, that's not bad at all. So you can record 100+ hours in HD? That's impressive. Are you able to download stuff from your DVR on to a PC? I know I found some program that was able to do that with my Comcast box which was nice.

Wow...that's cool. So if I commit to 2 years, I don't pay ANYTHING up front for receivers?!

Please correct if I am wrong here. This is what I got from DTV 6 months ago. I believe that you can have up to 4 receivers with no charge to the device. If you purchase the HD package, then you can have one HD receiver for free. You have to pay something like $100 more for HD-DVR. However, DTV will charge you $5 per receiver each month. Currently, I pay $60 for HD packages plus $15 for 3 receivers....oh yeah, plus all kind of taxes...LOL.

btw, with HD-DVR you need to have 2 cables that run from the switch-box, which connect to the sat dish. Normal receiver and HD receiver need only one cable.

eh, I don't know anything about that. I just order they do everything for me. No need to get my hands dirty if someone else will . LOL

BTW= it looks nice. Just checking out my new dvr and 5LMB .

i love my direct TV,plus u can get NFL sunday packet that no one else is offering.Comcast is lame it's took them 5-6 year to get espn2 to the city, everyone else in the bay area get them except the city.

I had Directv for 4 years and was forced to go with dishnetwork when I moved into my new apt because of reception issues. I have a house in escrow now and the first thin I'm going to do when I move in is call directv. I've never had comcast but from what I hear they aren't to great.

I love comcast $14 for the basic cable and free internet (thanks to their lazy contractor :D)

my last DirectTV guy spent 8+hrs installing all the wiring for my house 3 tvs. dude never complained or anything. much respect for dude. **** load of wiring done.

Thanks for all the great input guys. I just placed the order and they're coming tomorrow morning to install everything. Can't wait to be rid of Comcast finally and getting a lot more channels in HD!

Fishme, GO SHARKS! Know anyone that has extra tickets for the playoffs? I'm trying to get a hold of some for Thursday!

DirecTV for 8 years and we like it. We currently have 3 DirecTV HD DVR's. 1 in family room plasma, 1 in masterbedroom plasma and 1 split for both kids room LCD's. Cool thing about the new HD DVR is that the remote can be IR or RF so I bought 2 remotes and split the signal into both kids room. They usually watch the same programming anyway. I have component HD to one LCD and HDMI to the other. I love their HD PPV! :)

There's also OTA HD programming if your TV has a built in HD tuner and it's free. See here: http://www.antennaweb.org

Same here, I love the quality of my direct TV signal and on a 50 Plasma fogetta-bout it, I just bought a 32" Samsung LCD HD TV & Receiver for the master bedroom (I didn't want too clear of a picture in this room, Who needs 50" to watch porn anyways :D ).

Oh wow this was very helpful... I just purchased a Plasma and you guys just answer my question. Going with Direct TV. Going to give them a call in the next few days. I will just keep the high speed internet with Comcast. I hope they do not have to drill a lot of holes in the house.

LOL corals b 4 bills! I think I saw some of those in HD too! :D

xtremereefer, basically you need a cable feed for each tuner. A regular DTV receiver just needs one feed whether its HD or not. DVR's need two feeds to the receiver from the dish IF you want the "record and watch another program at the same time" feature. HTH.
