OT: Energy Efficient Pool Pump Recommmendation

I know many of us have tried to save some money when it comes to the electric bill and often our reef gets blamed as the primary culprit. What about air conditioner, or better yet the pool pump that runs for 8 hours a day!!!

1. How many of you have replaced your pool pump for a more efficient model?
2. Which model/brand did you purchase?

I'm looking at 2.5hp unit for a 42,000g pool. Any recommendations?

Where are the pool/reefers? I know you're out there! :)

You know who you are with $300 to $400 donation to our dear friends at Southern California Edison.

Gotta go Solar!

I'm a pool contractor/service guy. The only one I use is the intelliflo by pentair. It has a built in controller or could be controlled with a aqualink or intellitouch inhouse control. jandy and hayward pumps are garbage.

Yeah, I have a Jandy pump right now, noisy and not very efficient.

Any other brands you'd recommend? On the Pentair, which series would you recommend?

You ever hear of Ecopump (s)? Claims to use a lot less power. 3 yr warranty.

Thanks for your input, very helpful.

Search for a solar powered pump, it costs nothing to run your pool.

Not a bad idea, but eventually I'm going all Solar so I'd rather do an energy audit of all my equipment today and purchase a complete solar solution in the future. I'd hate to have two separate solar systems, one for the pool pump and one for the whole house.

Good suggestion.

I wonder how the SHE4.4 would do on a pool. Extremely high quality pump that will last forever. This is the same brand pump that Steve Garrett runs on his system although I think he runs the smaller size.

Cool, I didn't know pumps of this flow even existed. Looks like a sweet pump and very efficient! Wow. I wonder what the differences are between the two pumps. The connections appear to be exactly the same size as well, could work.

Thanks for the info. :)

At my house we use the pentair intelliflo vs its a great pump. You will also save $$ on your electric bill and it is quiet.

I have the Pentair Intelliflow as well. I took off a 2.5HP Whisperflow pump and the savings was dramatic.

I run my pump for 6 hours a day at 30GPM at 385watts, I run it at 60GPm for 2 hours and it sucks down the power and keeps the pool clean. In the winter I run it at 30GPM for 5 hours and 60GPM for 1. This is enough to keep the pool chlorination up and it is run on a salt system by pentair as well. I have an in floor cleaning system and it takes the extra flow to clear the leaves from the bottom of the pool or I would not up the flow.

Through my control system it boosts the power when the jacuzi jets are on and running at the lower flow saves a ton over the old 2.5 HP pump. My bill went down $100 per month changing out that old power hungry monster.

My pool is only 25,000 gallons.

My Intelliflow has been in service for 5 years, no problem so far.

Great info, looks like I'm going Intelliflo, will respond to everyone tomorrow. Heading off to bed now, have an early morning tomorrow and a long day.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Good to know that others are using the Intelliflo with good experiences. I'm going with Pentair for sure, now to decide which model:

1. IntelliFlo VF
2. IntelliFlo VS SVRS
3. IntelliFlo VSP (new one part#011018)

Just the man I wanted to hear from, another vote for Pentair. Thanks for your feedback Scott. Hope to have similar savings, $100 dollars a month would be nice. ROI of 11 months sounds even more amazing and from then on its money in my pocket. New bills are killing me, I was used to paying $200 to $300 a month, not my bill is never under $350.

the Intelliflow is the way to go the new ones have built in controlers pm me I can get you one in the pool biz

Cool, thanks for the offer, YGPM. :)

ROI just dropped to 9 months, great find Greg! Thanks!

Oscar hurry up and get one. I need to see how much you will pay for electricity :)

That way I can decide on house with pool or none.
