A burnt valve is going to be consistent. Every other revolution (every compression stroke) you're going to get a skip as the compression escapes the cylinder. I'd look at hydraulic valvetrain parts or the afformentioned tuneup stuff for an inconsistent miss. Maybe a blown head or intake gasket or possibly exhaust gasket, depending on what the noise sounds like.
