I keep getting an error message when I try to upload a file, ect. When I try to post a response on rc and upload a picture it states not responding, and then I try to repair and then is states apphang81. I googled it and it is a problem with windows vista but does not say how to repair. Do I need to re-install the operating system, is there a fix to the problem, or should I just upgrade to windows 7? I cannot even run a cleanup program as it states " cannot accept messages at this time" :sad2::sad2:

What else was stated in the error message with "apphang81"? It should have some more information there like
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: AppHangB1
Application Name: <----This is what were looking for first
Application Version:
Application Timestamp:
Hang Signature:
Hang Type:
etc etc

Did you install anything recently?

You can also go here and run a scan on the laptop (security and virus), it's basic but it works:

The only thing I installed was foxit which is a app for changing pdf files so that I could change the template I had for the ballots for the club, which did not work anyway.

Sue try using Internet Explorer real quick and see if the same problem happens.

I don't personally like IE, and use firefox also, but lately FF has had a couple issues.

OK, I'm assuming you did reboot, and run a virus scan. If so and that didn't help, you can uninstall Firefox and re-install it (an older version), but make sure to save your bookmarks first by doing this:

Goto "Bookmarks" --> "Organize Bookmarks..."

In the bookmarks manager:
"File" --> "Export"

Save the file somewhere and reboot.

When you reinstall Firefox:

From the bookmarks manager:
"File" --> "Import"

Firfox 3.6.8: http://www.oldapps.com/firefox.php?old_firefox=84?download

This version was released earlier this year, it's what I'm using.

if you cant figure it out and if needed i can install windows 7 for you (i think everyone can vouch that windows vista is the worst os ever made), just save all your files and i will do a clean install, pm me

im using firefox 4, its a beta but ive been running it about a month and its really good compared to current v3

theres also a beta of ie9 im using, its real nice as well, comparable to firefox now, and it looks the same.....

I cannot even run a scan. I have rebooted, several times. I have also tried the other day to install an upgrade to the firefox, but unsuccessful. At this point I do not think it is wise to do anything without making sure I do not have a virus but having issues doing that. Chevy, you are more than welcome to come over anytime to work on this today if possible.

I do not think it is a virus... from what I read there is a program causing your system to hang or crash.
It may well be the new program you installed I would point there first but also...
I used the FF beta and uninstalled after a few days when my system when unstable.

I would uninstall the new PDF program and the FF beta going back the the standard FF version then do a repair on the windows system with the disk if it still hangs after that if you wish to stay with vista.

If you have windows 7 to upgrade I would do that if you are able to get to the system to install it but I would still uninstall the ff and pdf before I upgraded.
Hope this helps

lets say IF its not ff or the pdf, if she just upgrades she gonna have the exact same issues after the upgrade, all an update does is rewrite the "windows" file folder and dosent change any files or settings, if you cant find the problem an upgrade isnt the answer and a brand new clean install of windows 7, after saving all files maybe the best bet

i do agree its something that didnt install correctly or more so sometype of trojan that has blocked security, she mentioned she couldnt run a virus scan, thats hints of sometype of spyware or trojan

p.s. ff beta dosent make everyones system unstable, as ive been using it for a month with not a single issue whatsoever

I cannot run any scan. It says firefox is having a problem with the windows tab. I did have a trojan threat yesterday and tried to eradicate it.
this service cannot except control messages at this time. That is what I get when I try to uninstall foxit.

can you install opera or any other internet browser? or uninstall firefox at all? at least to get you to where you can download the spybot and run that scan
