OT: help with new lcd monitor

Hello, I just recently replaced my 17" lcd monitor (gateway FPD1760 TFT LCD) with a Westinghouse LCM-22w2 monitor. But I am having a hard time playing any DVD's on my new monitor. I adjusted the resolution to what is recommended by the westinghouse model, which is 1650X1050 but still having problems. I have called westinghouse and they told me I need to download some software for my monitor since it's a widescreen monitor......? Is there free software that I can download for it? I currently use PowerDVD or Windows media player to run my dvd's.

Oh by the way, when I play dvd's I get the audio but the visual is where I have the problems. it is very distorted. To give you an idea of what it looks like, it reminds me of the snowy picture you get when you run a TV with no antenna except instead of seeing it all black and white it is all different colors.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks,

Gabriel

I take it the DVD's worked on the other monitor?

Did you install the drivers for the monitor?

Yes the dvd works on the gateway monitor but not on the new widescreen monitor.

The widescreen monitor I purchased was pretty much auto-configuration. I did not have to install drivers for the monitor.

You might want to install their drivers instead of what windows automatically uses, plus check your refresh rate. That is the biggest issue with LCD monitors both for computers and HD TVs, it is the refresh rate that gives you the distortion. HTH

Yea computer monitors are not really meant to watch movies, Even the color correction for video does not look that great.

I would definately go to their site and install the specific driver for that monitor

lcds dont rely on refresh rates the pixels are on or off, they dont use phosphor so there is no decay or need to redraw. Sounds like a driver or a cable/video card issue. alot of the on board video cards are pretty bad and if the video cable has a bad pin it can cause the same issue
