Just got back from spearfishing in keys for hogfish. I did some research and found out they're a type of wrasse. For the wrasse lovers out there I'm sorry.

beautiful fish. But dumb as a box of rocks. As u approach them they'll turn sideways to help with the shot. Btw awesome tasting fish

just thought I'd share that to who's interested.

HEY ! stop that sort of thing ,i would pay for that guy ! really if it tasts good and you dont kill them all dine all you can while your there . just not any of the cool wrasses or then i will send uncle Louie to your door step . and you wont enjoy the day after that nutcase shows up !

We are wrasse killers too. I like their coloring better when they turn into a male. I like them even more baked in the oven with stone crab stuffing and a real lemony hollandaise sauce on top. I think they are the best fish I have ever tasted. The largest my husband has ever gotten was a 17 1/2 lb from teh middle grounds. The following pic is just for reference - it's not us.

I'm guilty of taking them as well. They sure are a good eating fish! Even though the size can be 12", I usually will not take anything less then 15-16" as the yield is too small to justify.

Great food fish. I like 'em too. Really white meat. Like C4DC says, I like to get them 16"+ and let the smaller ones swim on. For such a big looking fish, not alot of meat unless you cook them whole.
