OT MAF sensor on a 2001 Impala 3.8l

If its the Power steering I'm going to fix it my self.. 2 bolts and it drops out under the car. What I don't want to do is spend 200 on the part to find out I should have bought the Idle Pully instead.

Try getting a large, long dowel rod or broom handle and place one end of it on the body of your power steering pump and put your ear on the other end. If it's the pump you should hear it through the dowel. Do the same with the tensioner.

Needless to say ... be careful.:D

Good point, I tried this the other night with a Socket and extension.. I could not get to the power steering, but did not hear the noise from the tensioner.

If its making the noise when your not turning the steering wheel then its not the rack & pinion . There is a slot in your belt tensioner that a you should be able to attach a racket or something around that line to it and see if you can move the tensioner to the unloaded position . If there isn't a lot of tension of the tensioner when its loaded then the belt isn't going to be tight and will make a noise .

I would be looking at a couple things.

The alternator can make the noises your talking about .

The a/c clutch can also make this noise when its starting to go out . < - This one is easy to find out .Just drive the car around and when it starts making the noise turn off the a/c and if the noise goes away there you are .

I have tried this and the noise stays.

I know the Tensioner is moving.. I have seen the line you are talking about. It jumps around a lot when the care is idling.

This line! It moves foward and backwards and seems like the other night the noise would go away after the line went towards the Firewall..

Okay replaced the Tensioner. That didn't work. Took the belt back off and noticed that the Water pump was making a squeak when we would spin it, and it would spin like crazy.

So after Taking the car apart twice last night to changing out both the Tensioner, and the Water Pump, I still have the squealing sound. So we will replace the Power Steering tonight.

Does anyone know how to get the Power steering out? We had it disconnected to replace the Water pump, but did not try remove it. Looks like it might be a pain to get out. I'm hoping it will fall out underneath the car, and slide back in that way..

Also need to know what size Star I need to take the wheel off the pulley? I think that might help it slide out under the car.

Well after working on the ear piercing squealing noise for the past week, and spending $450 plus on stuff I did't need. I fixed the car last night with a 29 cent O-ring  I'm guessing the last time the PCV was changed they used some type of liquid sealant, because we had to use pliers just to get the old one out. All it needed was an O-ring under the PCV. The
Vacuum sound I was trying to fix is gone, the Squeak is gone, and the car runs so much better... Woo Hoo!!

Thanks for your help guys

Hey that no good rotten terd!!!! That was MY $0.29 O-ring from my new skimmer mod. I had an extra one for just in case. He anit finished yet, I didn't get paid for my labor, and it's going to cost too!! I've got to charge extra for the 3rd shift hour's that I worked.
