OT: Mtn Bike Ride?

FYI: San Juan Trail is about 25 miles round trip, the first 12 miles is grueling uphill if you dont shuttle it, but it's kinda fun and has great views.

I thought it was only 8mi to Coctail Rock?
Even if you add on the top loop, you are only talking 20mi max.
I could be wrong though. I dont' have an odometer or anything.

hehehe. i got you.

well, i am looking for an all around bike. for the most part i will be ridiing up and down the coast (along the boardwalk) in the summer but i may trail it on occaision.

basically nothing super hardcore, but i would like the bike to be able to ride comfortably on roads but also have the balls to hit trails and beginner downhill terrain.

sounds like freeride is the ticket for me eh?

any thoughts on which brands to look into? anyone have a used bike for sale? hahaha!

As far as Trail-bikes, I like teh Ironhorse MkIII's (lower priced) or obviously Turner's (higher priced)

One other place to look is Ridemonkey.com.
I'm actually a Mod over there
I go by -BB-

since i am a cheap chinese dude, i want something that is the best bang for the buck. :D

Look at Ironhorse then.
Giant is pretty good as well.
One other bike that is pretty good is the Wyless that Performance (formerly Supergo) sells.

thank you much. i am perusing the ridemonkey site. alas, i'm not gonna get much work done today. lol!!

Disk brakes + suspension = poser ?? haha that's funny. SJ: I am including the loop and up to blue jay, dunno, I dont have an odometer either but maybe you're right more like 20 r/t?. I ride a Heckler. We should hit some trails up, I am starting to get out of shape.

Yeah... If you go all the way to the campground that might be about 25 since it is an extra mile or two past the "loop" above coctail.

I've only done the climb once. We usually shuttle it.
Have you done Chiquita? I hear it is pretty sweet!!

Chiquita is fun for sure...there are also other fun trails up there. You ever do Pinos Peak?

You wanna ride sat morning? The sat morn reefer sesh. haha

jef, you're the man for pedaling around on the 7point7.. actually i may have heard about you on another board.. something along the lines of a guy riding a 7.7 and climbing like a scalded cat up STT.. i ride an intense tracer that i like a lot, although i'm starting to look at bikes with a little more travel.. something along the lines of a 6.6, nomad or something a little more burly like a coiler, transition dirt bag

I do a reefer sesh every time I ride... Oops, you meant coral, huh? ;)

Never done Pinos (Los Pinos?), but I heard about it. Lots of ups and downs, huh?

LOL :smokin: Nothing like a little green pain killer for the ride.

Yea Los Pinos. The shuttle is more like a loop because it's all up and downs, fun spot though and there is an illegal trail there that is wild, almost like you're in norcal.

Nope... Not me. At least I don't think so. I've never done STT (unless they mean the climb on the luge.)

There is this dude Winston that has a 7pt7 as well, and he is a little better than me on the climbs. I've seen him at the Luge many times. He does a lot of the vids for Socal that are posted on MTBR.
Cool guy.

As for those bikes, all are pretty good.
I hear that there is going to be a 6Point next year too though.
You might want to hold out for that.

Its funny how no one on the bike boards can believe how much we spend on "silly fish" and on one on here can believe that a bike can cost more than a nice reef tank.

That would be cool... I used to live up in SF for 7 or 8 years and I miss riding in the trees.

Not to get off topic, but what stores do you guys use?
I'm not really tied to any one store myself.

I get water at Window to the sea (scripps sea water)
Fresh at SandBar (in MV) because it is close
Corals fom Pac Reef, Tongs, and Coral Oasis.

Never been to Black Coral, but I hear it is good.

Oh, and not to ignore your ride offer...
Unfortunatly I can't.
I'm heading out to Anza Borrego this weekend for a little 4x4n and camping.

hey man, what do you think this is...........a reefing board?

oh crap...wait it is....doh!

haha, I try to stay away from the stores. I never leave without spending $200+. RO at home is convienient, then I just mix for salt. I've been trying to scrounge the boards for new corals as it's obviously a better deal. I went into sand bar a couple weeks ago and was supprised to see they had corals, small selection as it may be. You ever go to the Reef Room in DP? I think it's pretty overpriced and has crappy hours, but it's closet to me. Where is window to the sea?

Well maybe another time, I think I'm going to take the boat out early anyway. Evening ride up there at night would be fun too.

Reeefers

Window to the Sea is up in Tustin (I work in Irvine so it is close to work). He bought all the equipment from that place on El Toro that closed. All they have is cheap water though.
His tanks are full of slime, sick fish, and dying corals.

So you buy off the boards?
Hey... Anyone want to buy a LARGE toadstool?
It is getting way too big for my tank. Standard Pink one with white tips. The "head" is about 10-12in in diameter, and the base is about 8in tall. It grows like crazy.

I may just frag it up though... We'll see. I know those things are almost indestructable. When I first got it, there was soemthing growing on it and I did some surgery (cutting, Iodine, FW dips, digging into it with q-tips)
