OT: MTRC shooting day?

NeveSSL

Got tubes?
Hi all,

I know there are a lot of people in the club who are also into shooting.

In addition to this, there has been a lot of talk about people getting together more often in non-reef related kinda ways.

So, lets combine those two. :D

Does anyone know of a range that could accommodate a few of us? I think there's one in Spring Hill that some of the guys on tngunowners.com go to. Jason, do you know anything about it?

I know its still a bit cold to do this right now, but I got a new shotgun for Christmas and I always love plinking with the .22's.

Whatcha guys think?

This is one good id. there is also a big shooting range in north Nashville that out doors and right off Briley Parkway. Bang bang

I actually think there is one down here in Murfreesboro somewhere near Cason Lane? I called to check the restrictions and requirements. $20/day or $40/mth. And from what the gentlemen told me you can bring your own ammo as long as it isn't surplus. I've been thinking of going by soon and giving my new gun a test.

I'll find out about the 1 in Spring Hill. There is a outdoor range on Hobson Pike also, it's open Fri,Sat,&Sun.

The one in murfreesboro is called On Target. It is on Thompson lane next to Roscoe Brown Heating and cooling, which is about a mile or so from Fins & Furs. I have been there a few times and was rather pleased. I think it was $20 or $30 to rent a Kimber .45 and a box of rounds.

Count me in as well. I used to be an annual member at On Target (http://www.ontargettn.com/). I let it lapse because it got to be too time consuming driving to Murfreesboro from Mt. Juliet, not to mention expensive. It's a nice place with friendly staff, and they have a bunch of guns you can rent (mostly glocks/springfields with a couple Rugers and maybe a S&W). I think that you can rent an mp5 submachine gun too, but idk what that costs. Anyway, I'd stress high-quality hearing (because it's indoors) and eye protection, but also maybe think about a mask or something. I never saw people wearing masks in there and their ventilation seems pretty good, but try shooting a couple hundred rounds and then blowing your nose: was all that black stuff in there when you started?

Stones River (http://www.tnoutdoorsmen.com/srhec.htm) is in Antioch and is a decent outdoor range. Price is like $5.50 for 2 hours, they have a lot of lanes and a separate area for rifles. They do have more restrictions (no silhouette targets) and the hot/cold thing is necessary but kind of annoying: you have to stop shooting every few minutes, COMPLETELY unload, take clip out, leave action open, set it on the bench and step back behind an orange line while a guy walks down the line and inspects each station. Once it's safe everyone has a couple minutes to go change their targets, but you can't touch your gun or even reload a clip until everyone is off the range. I prefer that to getting shot while changing a target, but it's still somewhat of a drag when you're used to a little more freedom thanks to the electric target pulleys at On Target.

Anyway, that's a little more than my $0.02, but I haven't been shooting in over a year and a half, and when I saw this thread I got excited. :)

cool, I missed the gun meeting at Waynes house so I would like to go. Shot my first 22 pistol last summer....and I liked it!

Maybe I'll Bring The Magnum Research Desert Eagle. It's just a little bigger than the .22 you shot.

I've never been shooting, so do you need anything to go shoot? Like a license/lessons? If not, I would definitely would love to go.

Guns N Leather in Hendorsonville. much mroe reasoanble than On Target, and bigger too. Jsut my opinion. Iw as not impressed at all with On-Target.

Pandarian, you do not need anything but one eye with decent vision and at least one arm with a few good fingers to shoot a gun. Seriously though, you do not need a permit to rent a gun and shoot at a range. I started going about two years ago and have yet to buy my own gun or get a carry permit. Seems like I could used that money to buy a gun. Oh well... hind sight is 20/20.

Rhett, I hope that the Godzilla Condor is a gun and not what your calling something else lol.

Isnt guns and leather in greenbriar, cause I grew up in hendersonville and I have never seen a guns and leather there. The only one I know of is on old springfield hwy(us41) in greenbriar, Tn.

Wow... somehow I completely missed all of the replies to this thread! Sorry about that. :)

Jason, what caliber is your Desert Eagle?

Anyone got a Barrett? Or any other .50 BMG? :D

There's actually also a nice trap/skeet range here in Murfreesboro if there are any shotgunners out there.

And if anyone has any Savage .30-06's or .308's and would like to bring them, that would absolutely ROCK! :D I'm probably going to get a .30-06 because its a slightly more flexible round, but .308 is not bad at all itself. :) A S&W 500 wouldn't be too bad, either. ;)

Anyway, thanks for all of the replies! Sounds like we definitely need to do this.

As far as ranges go, On Target is WAY too expensive IMO. Then again, I'm used to having tons of room to just shoot whenever I want in the back yard. Are the outdoor ranges cheaper? Don't get me wrong, On Target is a very well run range with good staff (at least when I was there), but $20 a day? That's ridiculous. I think its $250 a year. I'd rather just go down the road to my old boss' house or Wayne's. :D
