OT: NBA Playoffs

For all of the NBA fans out there, how would you rate the playoffs thus far? Who do you think will represent the West in the Finals? The East?

Since I started this, I'll go first. I think the playoffs are very good this year. Probably one of the best Playoffs I've seen in the NBA for a long time, if ever! Representing the West, YOUR Los Angeles Lakers! Coming out of the East THE Boston Celtics! I am very much enjoying the playoffs, I part because the Lakers are undefeated thus far, but mostly because of the matchups and level of play, except in the last Boston/Cleavland game! lol I also wanted to give a shout out to John's (and my) boy Kobe for winning the MVP trophy, which was much deserved! If you guys haven't guessed yet . . .

<------Laker Fan

Big lakers fan here, have been since i was a little kid.

Fromt he east.... I would love to see the magic. Dwight howard is a phenom and the whole team is exciting to watch. However my dad being a celtics fan (and me being a HUGE KG fan just in general) I would like to see KG win a championship, hes a classy player (except that rant a few years ago where he threatened everyone with guns and tanks and missle launchers.....facepalm) and was loyal to a franchise that never did anything right to put talent around him.

Problem is, Lakers are going to win it all and I dont mind that!

Man it's refreshing to see so many Lakers fans in Sacto. There is nothing better then going to Arco draped in Laker gear from head to toe and ranting back and forth with the Queens fans!

I say Old School Match Up Lakers VS Celtics and the Lakers take it in 7. I think the Lakers will hold up in the long run from not playing as many games ( Can you say SWEEP) and having a younger roster.

Not a Laker Fan but they look solid... A team built for the playoffs. I wouldn't be surprised if they sweep the Jazz as well... They could've easily beat them by 20 last night... They tend to calm down, and turn it up whenever they need to.

Sounds like all us lakers fans need to gather and go to a game!

Now THAT would be an amazing series. Im loving basketball more and more since the fallout ive had with the other major sports leagues. I cant remember a better playoffs with every game being so exciting to watch!

I hate the Lakers and Kobe.

I have not watched much if any BBALL this yr but started to watch some playoffs:)

I must say the Hornets are way better than i thought. I thought the Spurs would roll over them like they did Phoenix and go win another title. Spurs are just a playoff team.

I would love to see a team like the Hornets win it all and especially beat LA in the next round.

What was that old song. I hate LA, Oh yeah. Or was it love:D

These Playoffs have been great! Feels like the 80's to me (where's my The Cure CD)!

Well deserved MVP for Kobe. To say he's matured a lot from last year, is an understatement. Incredibly efficient. He's finally learned what it takes to be a leader.

The C's will likely make it out of the East. I know a lot of questions were raised from the Hawks series, but they're probably the toughest team to beat at home. Lebron won't be able to do it himself. His supporting cast still blows. Coach Brown is weak (his playbook basically consists of: give ball to Bron, let him create). The Magic are still young. Give them another 3 years. The Pistons are unbeatable when interested. I don't think they can maintain that kind of intensity in 7 games with the C's, though.

I knew Chandler was going to give Duncan fits. The Spurs really screwed up when they traded away Scola's rights. Can you imagine how good the Spurs would be if he was there? They could really use an active body in the paint for this series. I won't count them out yet, though.

No doubt the Lakers will come out of the West. I'll have to bring out the Sega and plug in Lakers vs. Celtics! Love that Tom Chambers dunk from the 3 point line:p

Pretty much sums it up. But the C's are so over rated, and the Cavs will give them problems as well. Detroit will come from the East as they are INTERESTED.
The Lakers oh so remind me of the Bulls in the 90's. I hate to say it but yes. You have Kobe (jordan), Pau (Longley), Odom (Rodman), Fisher (Kerr)......... Well they are missing a Pippen... and a Defense. Other than that their Triangle D/O is still on point.

Level of play is phenomenal but I'm so tired of the FLOP. It has gotten way out of hand. The league has to address this in the off season. Between guys "taking charges" off the ball and falling over with zero contact, it takes away from the incredible athleticism these guys have.

I'm thinking it's gonna be Boston in the East. But New Orleans has a chance to get past the Lakers although it's gonna be tough.

Oh Karl. The Cure is actually my favorite band of all time and favorite album is Disintegration!!!

Hornets and pistons

Agreed on this being a really good playoffs year! And I am another BIG Lakers fan. I'm a San Diego son and have always loved my Purple and Gold. I'm not going to lie though...I am secure in my fanhood enough to admit I wasn't so sure about letting Shaq go over Kobe at the time. Who else is fan enough to admit it?

But I was never so wrong! Kobe is finally playing like the MVP we knew he should be. I predict LA and the Celtics in the Finals. Lakers in 5.

Quick trivia question...What player did the Charlotte Hornets receive when they traded the rights to Kobe Bryant away?

Answer: Vlade Divac

And they say picking Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan was bone headed! Vlade Doddie? One of the greatest moves of all time for Jerry West!

P.S. I know you're just mentioning it for comparison purposes...but did you seriously just compare Pau Gasol to Luc Longley?? Lol.

playoffs have been nice but compared to the 80's or early 90's. no way.

how about comparing kobe to MJ that is the biggest joke i see in the comparisons. We all know MJ did more with less than anyone.

I miss watching Bird play.

Gotta disagree with you on that one kdblove. The comparison to Mike is pretty valid. I wouldn't say that about Kobe a few years ago...but this years Kobe is pretty close. They both are great scorers. And they both defend at an All Star level. I'd give Mike the edge on the latter. Kobe is not quite the defensive player that Mike was. I'd also give Mike the edge on leadership ability. But it's a thin one. They both are very clutch when it counts. And they both have multiple rings. I'd say it's pretty close.

It's rather difficult to compare Mike to anyone, or the Bulls team for that matter. But you have to realize it was Phil that put that sytstem together and all he needs are the pieces... And yes Pau compared to Luc. I know its funny, but it's just the pieces you have to look at. You must not remember much of Phil's system. All star player with solid big bodies containing the "triangle" on defense. This allows a double on almost every part of the half court. On offense it attacks the key, and allows open shots along the perimeter.
You guys are lame taking it word for word. Plus Odom is an offensive player while Rodman was the rebounding specialist. It's just the pieces that I wanted to mention.

Kobe's become Jordan-like this year...but he's quite a long way away from Jordan-Magic-Bird status. He needs a few more years like this one (if they win it all).

I just love that Jordan-Magic-Bird era.

I remember watching when Mike had his coming out party on Boston and lit them up for 63.

The one edge i will give Kobe is long range shooting. mike was just crazy, when he switched hands in mid air against the lakers. Man i love those days i was a basketball junky back then it was my reefing i played and watched like crazy!
