OT: NBA Playoffs

Wow.... I didn't mean to come off abrasive on my closing statement... If I offended anyone I apologize... But I hope you guys know what I meant, that Phil has the pieces of the puzzle to hopefully make it fit this year...
What I see though is that Pau is rather soft. With Kobe and Odom at his side he doesn't look as puny. But he really is, when the heat gets on he will melt away like all other euros. But good luck to the LAKERS out there.
I must admit I enjoyed watching Kobe this year, and how he distributes the all. Yes, Kobe has become Jordan-like, but far from being like Jordan. Plus you have to admit, to get to the West you must get through San Antonio. They are just as much in it like all the remaining 8 teams.

Like i said in my first post i was suprised the Hornets were that good. I expected the Spurs too walk all over them. They just seem to be a great playoff team"Defense" I dont think the Lakers want to face the Spurs

I'd say it's the opposite, Davey. The Lakers want to be the one to dethrone the Spurs. I'm sure Kobe's mindset is, if we're going to win it all, I want to take out the team that did it last.

Imagine what the Lakers would be right now if Bynum and Ariza were healthy?! They are going to be scary good next year . . . if Kobe keeps this type of play up which I think he will. In past years, I think he did try to distribute, the other guys just didn't make their shots. Kobe thought he had to do it all himself. Now with the level of trust he has in his teammates this year, the sky is the limit. I also agree with Davey in saying that IN NO WAY did I expect NO to be this good. I thought they just got by under the radar in the regular season and would get tossed in the first round. Boy was I wrong. I can't wait to see the NO/LA matchup next round. Maybe that will finally put all of the "Kobe didn't deserve this MVP, Chris Paul did" talk to rest. I agree that Pau is soft at times, but I think by playing next to Odem/Turiaf will toughen him up. Odem has benefited most by Pau's presence. He has become a madman on the boards.

On the East, I really hope that KG makes it also. I love watching him play. He puts everything he's got into every second of the game. I sure hope Detroit becomes interested AND Billups gets healthy because that will be another great game to watch! I got my popcorn out, my HD TV on, my shoes off, make MH off, and I'm ready to watch and enjoy!!!

playoffs have been nice but compared to the 80's or early 90's. no way.

how about comparing kobe to MJ that is the biggest joke i see in the comparisons. We all know MJ did more with less than anyone.

I miss watching Bird play.

With Less then anyone?? Pippy,Kerr,Longley,Rodman, etc etc. Jordan had one of the best supporting casts as did Magic.
It's kinda hard to compare the two as the era they play in is different. There are far more superstars now then when Jordan played and the other teams are far more competitive now then in Jordans era IMO.

Kobe gets a bad rap for being selfish in his early years. But if you look at the stats Jordan avg. 5.3 assist and Kobe is at 4.6, most of there stats are pretty even so I think it is a fair comparison.

I respectfully disagree, Rob.

You have to remember that the zone defense, 3 second rule, 8 second rule, and no hand-checking have made the new era's game quicker than before. More possessions, more ball movement, more scoring.

Can you imagine what a prime Jordan would have done in today's game? This era allowed a 40-year old Jordan to average 20 ppg. Even scoring over 40 pts on 3 different occasions.

I definitely feel there's no comparison between the superstars of today to Jordan's era. Especially considering the new rules and the dilution of talent in a 30 team League.

Kobe's good, but not that good.

I agree. The league in Jordan's era was more Defensive, now it's all about the points and fastbreaks. Jordan would have a killing knowing someone can't clog up the lane for 3 sec.

Now that I agree with. I just don't feel there were as many players back then that could put up 40 points a game, maybe that is due to the rule changes but I think a lot of it has to due with the Athleticism of the athletes today as well. Jordan was a freak of nature with the way he could fly around past people and dunk from half court, now a days half the NBA can do that!

I'm just a big fan of the parity in sports today, it's nice to NOT know who is going to win every year!

Karl I respectfully AGREEEEEEEEEE!!!

I liekd that Jazz game last night, got real interesting at the end and that on shot by kobe was pretty cool. Where he faked the jumper split the 2 defenders an threw the ball off the backboard and dunked it. I had to give him a thumbs up for that.

Lets go old sckool. MJ is my fav player always will be. but my favorite shot of all time is by Dr.J where he jumped from one side of the backboard went behind the back board and flipped it in from the other side. it was just awesome!

There will always be comparions. a few yrs ago they started comparing Dirk to Bird. COme on. Dirk does have skill but Bird was so smart and Birds passing skills were incredible

Been a good series so far, but in order for the Lakers to squeek by they need to win one in Utah. AK-47 will give Kobe problems as his length will bother him. But I love the playoffs so far!

yep, They are only getting better with all these serious getting tighter except the Pistons look like they will close out early

Yea, but even game 4 was a doozy between Pistons and the Magic... I thought w/out Billups they would even it up going to game 5.

The Pistons are capable of beating any team in 7 games, simply because they thrive on being backed into a wall. Plus, Howard's inability to string together strong performances and Hedo's mistaking himself for His Airness, helped tremendously.

AK-47 was helped out a bit by Kobe's injury though. I agree, AK-47 had a great game and did a great job defensively, but you can't say in all honesty that he wasn't helped out by Kobe's injury. Look at the first three games, AK-47 still had his length there but Kobe was having his way with him. I'm looking forward to the rest of th is series. The Lakers need to get their bench going. As for the other series, it's like day and night. The first two games, you think NO is gonna run away with the series, but then in games 3 & 4 the Spurs seem to wake up. If the Spurs can win one on the road, I think they will win the series. Game 5 for both series is going to be fun to watch!!!
