Ok im a pretty big self proclaimed computer geek but this is something iv never done.

Im trying set up a LAN and Wireless LAN would be nice.. between my desktop, my laptop and possibly my pda..

Anyone have any experiance doing this?

I've had lots of experience doing it. I know there is new technology out since I really studied this stuff and had planned on making a living since I was a computer techy, but I could probably help out.

Have a particular question? You can e-mail me if you like, or post it here.

Now adays its mostly plug n play.....ur desktop dosent have to be wireless unless u wanna be crazy but use ethernet for that...and ur laptop (if its newer) should come with a wireless card...and on the laptop find the section that says connect to wireless lan or w/e if not then u need a wireless card for it..as far as pda that's beyond me unless it has a way to connect on wireless like a laptop.....pretty much all u need for the whole setup is ur internet obviously and a wireless modem(walmart 50 bucks?) Hope I helped

experience - enough to know that no problem has a unique solution.

start with what you have:
- what kind of pda? what does it connect/sync with and how?
- does your desktop have an ethernet card/port? or wifi? or neither?
- does your laptop have an ethernet card/port? or wifi? or neither?
- who is your internet provider? is it OC-3/T1/FiOS/cable/dsl/aloha(outdated)/dial-up/pigeons (don't laugh, there is/was at least two RFP's for use with avian carrier)?

My desktop has a ethernet port....
My laptop has a ethernet port and a wireless card.
My PDA is a HTC Mogul im more interested in lanning the laptop and PC.

I have comcast which is a cable modem,

Im looking to lan these 2 together so i can share files between the 2 computers mainly for quick book and internet files.

get yourself one of these doesn't have to be from compusa, you can get em lots of places

follow the setup instructions and you should be fine

COMCAST Tip - The CM powers up and 'locks' to one MAC address (or physical address).
(1) You need to HARD RESET the modem to get it to work with the router, or
(2) before you start, open up a command prompt (usually in the accesories group) and type ipconfig /all and look for the physical address of the ethernet adapter and write it down ... worse comes to worse, you can make the router spoof that physical address
