OT: New law requiring hands free calling while driving

That would be becuase it's all ready illegal to do such. Even right now you could get nailled for looking down at your cell phone to place the call regardless of having a hands free. says the guy that got pulled over for looking at his cell phone, but got off with a warning :)

The actually does prohibit use of mobile PDAs for a wide variety of applications, including text messaging and mobile internet... DMV is just paraphrasing:

Q: Can I send a text message on my phone or Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) while driving?
A: No.

It's not so much that a phone call is a huge distraction. I think 'generation text' was what ruined it for the rest of us:p

A safer street is a better street, anyway:)

I wish the law was already in effect. There are so many people out there that can not drive alone, and then you combine a cell phone and they are even worse drivers.

Yep. It has to be handsfree. Good thing though it's still safe to yell at the kids, put on the makeup, shave, and faceplant into a BigMac.

God forbid I glance at my cell phone.

Btw, where'd I put that slushy? Just a sec while I reach to the back seat...

My personal favorite is watching women try to put mascara on while driving down the highway! Yah, look up into the mirror, open up that eye to spread the lashes, then put a black gunk covered stick in front of your eye with one hand, hold the container with the other, and drive with your knees:eek1: I've seen that one way too many times.
Multi tasking while driving is another pet peeve. But a cellphone, you can at least still watch the road ahead of you while you talk. So, the big no no is when you look away to do anything else, and sorry, but the handsfree devices don't help much when we all look at our phones anyhow to see who's calling and push a button.
Being a person who is on the road constantly, and my business revolves around the phone, this sux! I hate fiddling with the variety of handsfree devices I've tried. Oh well.

You would not believe how many books on steering wheels I see.

That's an odd place to store books? ;)

Oh that is too funny! The visual is all too real.

I love our bureacracy... trying so hard and still missing the mark. Multiple studies have shown it is not only is the texting or dialing that is distracting but moreover, the actual conversation that is the most distracting aspect of cellphone!!!! :D :strooper: :strooper: :bum:

I think to eliviate our driving woes, we just need to train our cars to respond to via radar in traffic, think and know what is coming up, be able to stop for that kid and the ball that rolls into the street, and finally have our Tom Tom take us right into the lake after driving down the road that doesn't exist yet. :D

What's next... I'm ready! :eek2: :rolleye1:

Anything taking your eyes off the road is cause for a ticket, make up, reading, your radio, smacking the kids in the back seat, etc. The law is pretty clear about keeping your eyes on the road thankfully :)

Remember the Simpons episode where Homer deckd out his car with all kinds of portable things, like a Churro machine, Cotton Candy Machine, etc? Drove it right off the wharf into the lake/ocean.

Nooo!!
That would make my radar detector go crazy!!
Then I'd never know where the cops are, all the cars on the road would be spewing KA ;)

Yeah... but what I'm talking about is their eyes are on the road but nobody's home because they're off wherever their converstation has taken them... Does not respond to outside stimuli... :D

When I was trained to fly I was taught the priority:

Aviate, Navigate, Communicate in that order. Same thing should apply while driving.

Drive, Navigate, Communicate in that order with the predicessor always trumping the follower.

Saw that just yesterday and I swear she was going to plow right into me. Good thing her Jetta had decent brakes. I could see her looking off into space thru my rear view mirror.
