Hey guys where is a good place to adopt a dog, I'm looking for a small dog but not sure where to look. Thank you

no please no petland dogs. I don't want to start anything here, but I think he was on the right track when he said he wanted to adopt a dog. Petland buys all of their dogs from puppy mills, which are awful places. www.stoppuppymills.org .

I like "this one" as opposed to "or this one". :D

I'm just trying to figure out how a Chihuahua & Whippet got together!

aww very cute! I wish you the best of luck in your quest for your new best friend. I think adoption is great, and commend you for what you are doing. You must post pictures when you adopt one :)

Also on Petfinder, there is a classified section. People can post pets that they need homes for, that they have found or pets that they want.
There is a link on the very top of the page and on the left. Check it out and good luck with your search.

If you get this in time- out by the Mall at Milennia right across the street there's a humane society with really really nice facilities as far as pet adoption and volunteer\donations go.

It's where I adopted 2 of my 3 kitties and there dogs there are great too- They do an okay job of screening you and they have vets on site to examine the pet and if they are young to do any necessary spay\neutering before they go out

I hope this helps :)

Good for you! Adoption is great! I would never buy from the stores that pull from puppy mills! There are many, much better options! I have to wonder if the first, although adorable, will stay small. Aren't whippets pretty big? I'd just be a bit concerned with that one if you truly want a small dog.

No, there are plenty of other options. Try other adoption agencies, and find one in which they have a dog suitable for your household. They may not be adopting out to you because the dog may not be good with kids, which is in your best interest.

Also, if adoption isn't an option, you should look into finding a GOOD breeder in your area. Petland should never be an option when looking for a dog.

Is there a place that you can actually go there and look at the dogs? it doesn't matter Lake County or Orange County, the ones I was looking at they seem to be spread out and not in one location.

I have seen adoption agencies outside Petsmart but they usually don't have small dogs.

You can go to the SPCA: http://www.ohs-spca.org/ .

Also, most petsmarts (as you've said) have pet adoptions on the weekends. I've seen plenty of small dogs there. My sister and her boyfriend actually just adopted a chihuahua mix (we think its beagle/chi) from the Waterford Lakes Petsmart.
