OT: Plea for prayers... sorry to post this

I just want to make a plea for prayers from as many people as possible for my friend in Strong's ICU who hit a tree last night.

He was on his way home from visiting his little boy and we're assuming he was avoiding a deer because between him, me and my hubby we've hit about 5 of them in that area in the past few years.

*And I'm still praying for others who've posted on here too. Hopefully we all experience some miracles real soon.

Thank you all so much! We just got back from visiting him. They said there is definate damage to his brain but it is possible that he's still young enough to make a full recovery. He hasn't woken up yet but it hasn't even been 24 hours yet. He has multiple fractures to his pelvis, most likely a broken rib that punctured his lung and is not breathing on his own and once he wakes up they're sure other broken bones will be discovered. Now he just needs to wake up so we can give him his new nickname. :)

Thanks guys. Yes, it was on the back side (east) of Mendon Ponds Park. It was his Ford Probe on the news. Mercy Flight and the neighbor that immediately called 911 are the reason he is alive right now and we don't have enough words to thank them for that. It took quite some time for him to be cut out of the vehicle but Mercy Flight took immediate action in the meantime. We will be going to visit him again today. Last night his arms were responding to pain of a bandage ripping hair off his arm which they said is a good sign. ICU is being super right now too. There were quiet a few of us in there last night talking to him and telling him jokes.

I just wanted to thank everyone and give an update. They have removed the probe from his head and did a traecheotomy today. He can definately hear us when we talk to him as he will stretch out his foot or ever so slightly move his hand. Last night when the nurse was readjusting him he made some pretty strong entire body movements as though he was trying to sit up so we are all giving him all the encouragement we possibly can. :)

He is very lucky to have loving, caring people like you in his life.

I'm praying as well.

Another update and a question:

Joe has now been opening his eyes, moving all of his limbs, following fingers in front of his face, smiling, puckering for kisses from his girlfriend and raising his hand and moving his fingers like he wants to talk so he is basically in what they call the "emerging" process right now. We are all so excited! It's been small steps w/ more and more actions every day so we are all very expectant of a majority recovery for him even though the docs said when he opened his eyes "what we see is what we get". That was before he started doing all of these other things over the past week!!!

The question: Joe's mom has been given a list of 10 retirement homes in this area that Strong is suggesting she choose from. I know that ideally he should not go home with her at this point because of the amount of care he needs and his mom is already faced with caring for her mother every day. I've also read that some patients go to retirement homes during the rehabilitation process. My question is this (and please PM me so that you can feel free to be frank rather than holding back in a public forum). What feedback can you give on the Rochester area retirement homes? Good and bad... I've already heard of one of them that let someone's family member die and it wasn't realized until 24 hours later...

Thanks in advance for any assistance as I'm on a mission to make sure that if Joe does go into one of these places it will be one that treats him right and doesn't delay his rehabilitation...
