7 people are on a bus. Each person has 7 backpacks. In each backpack is 7 cats. Each cat has 7 kittens. How many legs are on the bus??

7 people x 2 legs = 14
7 cats x 4 legs =28
49 kittens X 4 legs =196
add it all together and your grand total of legs would be
238 legs are on that bus

why ?
did you need someone to do your home work?

My first thought was the same as buffalobunch - buses have wheels, not legs.

But if you're actually counting the legs on board, I'm going with 1582:

7 people x 2 legs = 14
49 cats (7 backpacks x 7 cats in each) x 4 legs = 196
343 kittens (49 cats x 7 kittens) x 4 legs = 1372

Total legs = 1582

lol .... but didn't you say 7 people and 7 people on that bus have 2 legs each
and you yes your said 7 back pack but back packs don't have legs but each of those 7 back packs have 7 cats witch all are on the bus and 7 cats have 4 legs each. and each of those cats have 7 kittens witch means all of them have legs. so techicaly the answer would be 1582 legs are on the bus. sorry its the autism coming out. omg I am sooooo confused. forget it. lol

Ah, here's the interesting part.

7 people x 2 legs = 14
7 bags of per person = 49 bags
49 bags of 7 cats = 343 cats
343 cats x 4 legs = 1372

The trick is, they never said the cats' kittens were on the bus. Just that each cat has 7 kittens. Therefore there are 1386 legs on the bus.

so, hyrumbradshaw, you're right.

and, if you wanted to count the kittens in anyway, the answer would be

343 cats x 7 kittens = 2401 kittens
2401 kittens x 4 legs = 9604
total = 10990

You don't bury survivors. HAR HAR HAR!

Yes but by that logic it doesn't say the 49 backpacks are on the bus either. The 49 cats can have 343 kittens that might not be on the bus, just as much as the 7 people have 49 backpacks that might not be on the bus. So the answer is either 14, or what Che's DW said (assuming her math is correct, and I'm one Asian who is terrible at math so I can't check :) )

I was thinking the same about the backpacks maybe not being on the bus.

Also Che's DW math isn't correct, since she said there are 49 cats total. But each person has 7 backpacks. So there are 343 cats.

Well actually she would be wrong. There would be 49 adult cats per person. So 343 adult cats. And a mess of kittens. Don't these people get their pets fixed?

ok here is what i came up with with the kittens and everyone else on the bus

7people x 7backpacks=49 backpacks on the bus
49 backpacks x 7 cats= 343 cats on bus
343 cats each having 7 kittens = 2401 total cats and kittens
2401 cats having 4 legs =9604 cat legs
9604 cat legs + 14 human legs = 9618 legs on the bus??

9618 legs on the bus

am I right am I wrong who knows....
