OT - RC Airplanes

You should put those packs as a group on RU or RCG. You could get some money to help with something... say a new phone? :D

Brandon

lol

I may do that. Doubt anybody will buy them though. I wish I had done LiFe packs to start with. Much less of a pain than NIMH.

Hopefully it's clear this weekend. Would like to go flying again :beachbum:

Anyone planning on flying this weekend? Looks like it will finally be decent weather. I plan to be at Columbia. Hopefully both days.

Probably not on Saturday but I might be able to on Sunday. I finally got my Dragon Link receiver today. Hopefully I'll get the servos, motor, esc. etc. from Hobbyking soon. Can't wait to get that FPV plane going.

Very nice day at the field today.

Time to do it again tomorrow!

I need to get a Sig Rascal 110 too. That plane is awesome! Big high wing plane, looks like a huge trainer, but one of the guys brought one and it was hovering and knife edging like a 3D plane. Then it would float in for a landing .. dude flipped it up on one wheel, rolled it down the runway, then took off vertical again to hover... with a G26. Pretty awesome.

I had a great day of flying as well. Temp was nice and not much wind. I got the heli to hover for a long time today. Looks like I made some progress today.

Hopefully I'll get to go flying tomorrow. I'll probably head out to Columbia too. Supposed to be warmer down south anyway. :)

Hey all, I piped in about page 12 but never came back. I am still here. My plans have changed a little.

Brandon, Thanks for that heads up on the shops in the area. I will be checking them out soon. I found Action Hobbies in Clarksville. Nice guy that runs it. Helpful and willing to order what ever. Its kinda a self serve store, just go in and find what you want. If you can't find it, ask, Larry may have it hidden somewhere.

I bought a Slow Stick that I am in the middle of building now. I expect my batteries this week so I should get to maiden next weekend. Woo Hoo!!! Can't wait. I also bought a DX5 used. I am on my way. I bought a Sportee 40 ARF kit off ebay for cheap. That should be in this week also. That is one that will not be flown for quite some time. I need a lot of stick time before I wreck that bad boy.

Thanks again for the info Brandon.

Awesome, Mark! Slow Sticks are fun. Some people have been mounting cameras on them, too, and doing some basic aerial photography. Fun stuff!

That Sportee 40 looks like it could be a fun little sport plane, too.

Brandon

Sticks of any sort are awesome. My 60 is my cheapest plane and is great fun.

Good day at the field .. . got to see Mike's glider - that is too cool.

I need to buy a muffler for my Saito on the Stick as mine decided to snap off. I guess that is what happens when you rig a big pipe off the side instead of using a proper exhaust deflector. Going to pick up a Turboheader muffler and a good long exhaust deflector.

Now, off to hunt down a fuel pressure leak on my Funtana ... thanks for helping today Mike, the plane flies great now - just need to keep it started  At least I got some dead stick practice:wildone:

Glad to hear you guys had fun today! Maybe next time its warm (next weekend?) I can bring the Avistar out, too. We'll see. :)

Very cool - you need to get some more time on the Avistar

I think I found another YS engine ... hopefully dude takes PayPal.

Definitely need more time on the Avistar. I'll need it for when things don't go according to plan with the Mini Titan...

Is the YS a 1.20? Good luck getting it!

Yeah, I got close to a 45 min. flight one time. I imagine on a day with good thermals and such you could fly for a long, long time.

It looked like you had a radiator hose coming off of that muffler. :D I never have had good luck with exhaust deflectors. Almost all of them fall off on me.

Your Funtana was flying good and you did a good job on your deadstick landings. On the first one, when I asked you if you needed help, I almost forgot I was flying my glider and was about to put down the TX and ran over there. :lolspin: Shows how exiting the glider is.

lol ... this is true. Both should be fun to fly though.

Yes, the YS is a 1.20 SF. It appears the YS on the Funtana needs to be rebuilt, should be minor, but a pain in my rear regardless. I think the pressure problem will be fixed by replacing all lines and checking the seal on the fuel tank. The engine runs fine, for now - it shuts down after running for a while but the fuel system isn't pressurized like it should be - easy fix. However, it has hardly any compression, and after running it the engine still doesn't have compression - so it needs some work. Ronnie may be able to rebuild the engine if he has parts from one of his old ones but if not I need to replace it. Either way my Ultra Stick 120 needs an engine so if he can repair it I will put the new one on the Funtana and the rebuilt one on the Stick.

Thanks :) It was a heater hose - pretty similar to a radiator hose

I could imagine sitting at the beach drinking some beers with a glider up in the air. That would be cool.

Yup, yup. I already have a camera. Guess I kinda put the cart before the horse / so to speak. There was a guy on RCG that had some key chain cameras for 20 bux shipped. I couldn't resist, I knew I would want to mount it on something someday. Waiting on batts.

Mike and Zach, sounds like you two had fun today. All is well when at the field, I suppose. I was busy trying to finish up a hood I am building for my 20L before the final shipment of plane parts and I am distracted.

You all enjoy the warm weather. It is supposed to snow here on Tue. Thats ok, I just got a set of floats for my SS. Should work off snow as well I have read.
