OT - RC Airplanes

I haven't had much free time lately. I hope to maybe get some time in tomorrow evening or sometime late in the day this week after work.

Yeah, someone put that picture up on rcgroups when I crashed in the tree so I figured it was fitting.

I'm at the field now. It has rained a little but it looks like most of it is going north of here. Temperature sure is nice though.

Btw. Flying the mcpx through the rafters in the little building is fun. Almost hit that owl with it. Lol. Smacked it into the runway and picked it back up and pushed the main gear back on and took off flying again.

Well, since this forum is back I guess I should update my progress. I built a tricopter and have been flying it around some. I found a nice frame for a quadcopter the other day so I ordered one. Can't wait to get it going. Should be fun for FPV.

Yea, I'm glad to see this one back. Thank you Chris (fishdoc)!

I really need to get out to see that little tricopter :D I will be busy studying this coming weekend and moving the next so maybe, maybe if I'm lucky I will get some time the first week of July to go fly

I'm also glad to see this forum back. :)

Now that this thread is also back, I am planning on getting a small electric plane, probably one of the types of tough foams, and wearing the crap out of it. :D So since I'll be wearing it out, I am planning on brushless, several extra batteries, and possibly a new charger. :)

Mike, thanks for showing me that mCPX. That is a really sweet little copter. May have to pick one of those up after I get more time on my mSR. It seems like it may be a great follow-up to the mSR.

Brandon

Zach, hopefully by that time the tricopter will be history and I will have all the equipment on the quadcopter. The frame has shipped from Poland but I can't understand what the tracking info says. :)

Brandon, I think the MCPX would be a great choice for a second heli. A few years ago I would have thought someone was crazy if they chose a little electric heli to begin with. :)

Its on my list. :)

The problem is, my RC list has been growing lately. ;) :D

Did you get your quadcopter frame yet?

Brandon

The quadcopter frame is coming from Poland so it may be a a little while. It said approx. 2 weeks to the U.S.

Brandon, you need to come out to the track at Chickasaw Trace sometime in Columbia. I will let you try out a slash and my Losi 8ight 2.0 if you want. I need to clean them up and get them going again anyway.

I got my quadcopter frame today and worked on it some. I am still waiting for the motors for it though so I can't do much until I get them. I was going to put the motors I have on it in the mean time but they mount differently and it will be a chore to get them mounted. I ordered the motors the guy that made the frame recommended from some place in China. Who knows how long it will take.

Awesome, Mike! I'm definitely going to have to checkout your vehiculars. :)

What size motor are you putting on the quadracopter? Got a link?

I'm waiting on my motors for my Twinstar to come in, to. :D

Brandon

Cool, I just got the motors today. With any luck I might get this thing flying by this weekend. I worked on the frame last night and it looks like it will build pretty quickly.

so i bought my first plane and i went cheap to see if i would like it( i love it!), i bought a little air hog plane that charges by the controller and gives about a 10min flight. now that i know i like it i was wondering whats a good RC to get that i can get for about 100 dollars that would be good to start with gas or battery is fine but i got to get something better than what i got. any help would be great.
thanks
greg

Nice! Do these fly like RC helicopters as far as the sticks go?

Brandon

Yeah, they fly pretty much like a helicopter. When my tricopter was properly adjusted it was actually more stable.

I got the quadcopter finished minus FPV gear. It was dark so I decided I would try to hover it in the basement to see if it behaved correctly. I lifted off and noticed it lifted off at a very low throttle setting. I moved around a little and it started going up slightly. I lowered the throttle some and for some reason it shot straight up pretty quickly and slammed into the ceiling and then fell back to the ground. There was no damage to the quadcopter but now I have 4 divots in the ceiling from the tips of the motors hitting it. :lmao: I was worried about it being able to carry the FPV gear but I don't think that will be a problem.
