OT - RC Airplanes

Yep! :)

My rudder servo died yesterday, though. Not sure what happened. Surprisingly, it wasn't one of the cheap Chinese servos. It was one of my Hitecs! I'm going to take it back to Hobby Lobby. Hopefully they have some more in stock, although I doubt they will.

I can still fly it, just not quite the way I would like. This plane kind of needs the rudder more than my other planes, and it was quite interesting flying it in high winds today without one, but I made sure to be about 2 mistakes high. :) Also, full throttle makes this thing CLIMB... it cracked me up... I think it actually needs more weight... a nice camera on it should do. :D

BTW, I only put about 700mAh back into the packs. That's pretty crazy for 10 minutes of flying! It was almost all at 1/2 throttle, though. Only pushed the throttle up to do a few loops. :) I even checked the packs with my voltmeter to make sure it charged them all the way back up, and it did! tTiny bit off, but just by about 3 one-hundredths of a volt. I can live with that. :) This is a great little plane!

BTW, if some of you guys here haven't seen the video I took last Saturday take a look. It is a little long but the best parts are near the end. I have entered it in a video contest to get a free receiver for my Dragon Link. I am in second place I think and behind by about 5 views. It ends today and I am catching up but I don't know if I'll quite make it. :D

Kind of OT but do any of you guys have any tips on where to get my hands on a good slot car track. I bought one for my son and he loves it but it's a cheap made in Hungary (or some eastern block country)deal and it keeps breaking and isn't engineered well. I know I had a Tyco track growing up and it was great. I see they no longer make those but can be had online used. Any ideas or tips would be apprechiated:)

Troy and I are going to Columbia tomorrow. Maybe we can do some tandem flying this time.

Fishdoc, I don't know where you can get slot car stuff nowadays. You might try Hobbytown in Murfreesboro. I haven't been there much but I think the Hobbytown that used to be in Franklin had some.
 
Ah okay. I got out here and Troy left me a message that his wife's car is acting up so he had to fix it. Only saw one truck pull in today but it turned around and left. I followed it with my skywalker. :) Got a couple of flights in at least. I'm fixing to head home I guess.
 
I will be! But I'll be flying at home between chores. :D

I sold my Sukhoi to my brother for his birthday and picked up a Beast today. :) I cannot WAIT to fly it! I'm going to play around with flaps, too.

Cool. I might head out to Columbia but haven't really decided yet. I flew my skywalker yesterday and went 4 miles. As I was landing I heard a funny noise sort of like a plane but sort of like a helicopter. I looked over the house and a V22 Osprey was flying by. I wish I had still been up, I could have seen if I could get some video of it. It was probably a mile away BTW, not like it would have been close to my plane. :)

On a side note, did you know that the full scale beast crashed last weekend at an airshow? It killed the pilot as well. :( Also, a guy was trying to go from a helicopter to an airplane in another airshow and slipped and fell off the next day. :( Bad weekend for airshows.
 
Yeah, I did hear about that. That's actually part of the reason I went ahead and got one. Just felt like time.

I'm gonna fly it tomorrow.

Anyone else flying tomorrow? I'm probably heading out to Columbia. Might even broadcast a flight on Ustream if I can get it to work from my iPhone.
 
Here is the 3rd flight of my Maxi Swift. I really like this plane. It flies much better than the skywalker and I am not worried about ripping the wings off doing some aerobatics. The rolls at the end were done without power and I hardly lost any altitude. The last landing was yesterday when a gust of wind blew it into a tree. It just wiggled and kept on flying.

Probably going to do some FPV night flying this weekend. I did some this week but my camera is bad at night. I have one that is supposed to be in the mail in the morning that supposedly works pretty well at night.
