OT. rescued a red-ear slider turtle in the road, can it live in my koi pond

my mother was comming back from dropping my sister off at school and there was a large red ear slider crossing the road!

she did not see a pond or creek nearby so she brought him home. it may be a lost pet but we'll keep an eye out for "lost turtle" signs rather than post "found" signs as anyone who is interested in a turtle can try to claim it as their own (plus i like him!!!)

this turtle is as big a football and in great health. i have had a red ear slider in the past who lived off of hotdogs (not the best diet....) and hybernated in my garden with my box turle but that was before i dug my pond....(i gave this turtle away)

any way i am not sure i want to risk putting it in my koipond and i wanted to see what you guys thought of the idea.

most of my koi are well over 5 inches and way longer and wider than this turtles mouth, but would he still try to hurt them? i know the smaller fish, which are fancy gold fish, would be at risk and my tadpoles would likely be eaten (which is fine, i have too many bullfrogs already)

if he lived in my koi pond it would be easier to care for him as he would be able to roam freely in the fenced garden and forage for slugs and bugs alongside my box turtle (who has been in there for 5 years now and i don't have to take care of him at all!)

currently he has a kiddie pool and is in with our big green iguana outside but if he stays there it means i will have to clean his pool all the time and make sure the iguanna does not eat his food.

SO
what do you think?
should i put him in the pond
or will i be condemming my koi to death?

I don't believe they will survive the winter here, but you should research it further.

I think she might have already experienced this in the past

the red ear slider survives in the wild in CA although it is NON NATIVE and its against the law to let them go in the wild as they compete with the native turtles, which is why i assume that if you find a wild one you can take it home with no problems with the law.
we actually found a red-ear by the river a few weeks ago but it was rather sick and died a few days later, we found it far from the water under a tree and it never moved much despite being warmed up in the sun and it never did eat in the time we had it.
this new one eats like a pig

the one i had as a oet for 3 years burried itself in my compost pile in early winter and ame back out in mid Feb every year.
i'll look into the bigger ones being more vegitatrian, i know this guy likes trukey bologna :) (its all we have besides feeder fish)

Please research the nutritional requirements ASAP.
I wouldn't feed turkey bologna to a RES any sooner than I would to an anemone!

Do you have any red lettuce?

Damn! I guess i need to stop feeding bologna to my anemone.

I will take it for my son If you decide against keeping it. I live in Carmichael and have a house for it and everything.

Btw is it only turkey anemone's eat or will they eat summer sausage as well?
