OT Sat Dish Alignment

So my house got resided. They took the dish off to put up the siding and not I don't have signal. I assume it is just out of alignment. Anyone have a sat signal finder or some such contraption to align these guys. DirectTv wants to charge 70 bucks to come out and do it :(

Did the siding company discuss with you the need to remove the dish to do their work? If not, I'd be calling them up and saying, "Hey, your guys messed with my dish and now I can't get a signal...what are YOU going to do to fix that?"

If someone called me up after I sided their house and asked me what I was going to do about fixing their TV - I would laugh and hang up.

most receivers can help you align the dish, as long as you have a couple two way radios, some time, and if it is your buddy some

it should be in the setup menu under installation.

ya and my grass doesn't look good anymore from all the traffic. you need to mow it!

I do not hav a compass other than a "cheapo hand on the jacket with a thermometer kind". So I am not able to get degrees. The people who are siding told me they were going to remove it. I didn't think it would be this hard to realign it. The dish took a umm whacking... a while ago and it aligned right up. The guy used the same holes too. My Tivo shows, I guess, what it needs to be set to but I can get it to get a signal. I will mess with it more tomorrow when it gets light I guess. They will be finishing up the house tomorrow. Wasn't sur eif anyone had the thing to check for signal. I hear they are 15 bucks at Radioshack, or at least that is what direct Tv told me.

So, if they cut the cable to your house, or broke a window, or maybe bent up your guttering would you feel the same way. Would cost you money to fix that as well. I mean, if you pay someone to perform a service, everything is supposed to be put back the way it was beforehand. A good company would see to it that things were made right. They didn't side his house as a favor. And I have no idea what trampled grass has to do with mowing it, but if it makes sense to you then whatever. Just making a suggestion as to something he could try.

The company did put it back up and used the same holes and hardware. It is not their job to dial in a satellite receiver.

They did not damage anything. Is that what you are trying to say about the broke window and the cut cable ? That they did infact damage his property ?

Dumb question, but did you try and re-scan to pick up the satellite or OTA signal? Once or twice my D* receiver has lost the signal and I had to re-scan.

I had it on the sat config area. was toning looking for signal on all 3 birds, nothing. Must not be pointing in the right area. I will get a compass tomorrow and see what kinda damage I can do.

I had the same problem after the storms in July. I went to walmart and bought a cheap compass and found the sats after about 10 minutes. Beats paying direct tv more money.

I have a sat. finder/signal meter you are welcome to borrow. Nothing fancy but it does keep you from having to go down to the TV to see if your getting a signal. As long as your close it should work fine. If you're out by 10+ degrees though a cheapy compass would also come in handy. Obviously another easy way to align is to take a small (9-12") TV and an extension cord to the antenna site.
