OT- Sports Poster

This is not reef related at all but I wanted to share because I'm pretty proud of it. I have spent hours browsing forums and photoshop tutorials to learn how to make a sports poster. I'm just an amateur photographer that takes a lot of pictures of my kids playing sports.

I got the idea when my son's baseball team made the Cal Ripken 10 year old world series last summer. The professional photographer for the event had tons of these posters for sale. Gave me the idea and I have been on a mission ever since. I finally got one completed. Not the best but I think it is pretty good for the first one.

Not at all, yours looks great! I just thought you would appreciate those others since you had recently completed this project.

I certainly do. Plus they are a great source for ideas. Now that I have the basics down, coming up with creativity is a challenge.

Really nice looking, what size are you going with? Might want to look up the "Stand out" prints available from somewhere like Millers (MPIX)

Very impressive for your first try! I have to say you did a good job of using tools that you knew how to use so that you didn't have obvious layers or separation between areas you edited. If you want to go further, the H.O.T. series books are pretty good learning tools for the adobe programs.

This project was made as an 8 X 10 so I could print it myself. Again, I don't know much about what I'm doing so I tried to keep it simple. I eventually want to make a large one, maybe 20 X 30 and order a poster print of it.

I have spent a lot of time trying cutouts and I just can't seem to get the hang of them. I can't get a crisp edge on the subject so I decided to not use one. I hope to eventually learn this craft and utilize them in my creations. I think cutouts look great on these posters.

dp reefer, will you point me in the direction of the H. O. T. books? I'm not familiar with them. Everything I have learned so far has been from online tutorials on youtube or ones I found through Google.

you can find them at amazon.com - crisp edges are actually usually what you don't want because they look unnatural. Use the feather tool under the select menu to slightly blur and blend the edge of what you're cutting out

There were some people post their interest in purchasing tutorials but I haven't seen any replies from him saying he had anything ready. I've been keeping an eye on that thread because I would like to do something similar with my kids' sport pics. Hopefully he comes out with something that isn't too $$$.
