OT: suggestion on best home video editing program

Hi All, sorry for this off-topic... but I need help!!!
I picked up a DV camcorder last week. Unfortunately, it did not come with any video editing software.

I need to use Microsoft's "Movie Maker" to transfer the video to computer then edit. However, upon editing, I can only write the movie onto CD which is playable on my computer only. In addition, the program is pretty limited with its editing options.

Can anyone recommend a good, relatively affordable program that would allow me to transfer my DV to computer, edit, then convert and transfer to a DVD?

BTW, I am using the Canon ZR 500.

Thanks.

Pinnacle is a great program that's not too expensive. However, if you want full control and willing to spend a bit more, Premiere is the way to go for Windows or FinalCut for Macs

I use Power Director 4. May be a couple years old now, but at the time I bought it it got good reviews. I have found it to be very easy to use and full of more options/toys than I'll ever use.

BAH... premeire takes too much rendering time. and i have over 2gb. of RAM on my system

windows movie maker is the easiest. you can always save video as high quality AVI and use a different program to burn the DVD.

second easiest is the dazzle software or ulead.
