Anyone know of some good places in Lorain County to get firewood? I usually buy slabwood from Fowl Farms but am thinking of changing this year. I'm looking to buy about 6 cord of split hardwood aged at least 6 months to a year.

Anybody know of a good place??? They have to deliver too.

Chicken - one cord is 128 cubic feet of wood packed tightly. Stacked it would be 4' high by 4' wide by 8' long.

Actually, it depends on if they get a clean bill of health on their wood or not. I spoke with a logger today who gets his material from woods around the Findlay area and he is located in Lorain County. Was certified ok to bring in his timber.

Fowls Farm charges $275 for a 3 cord load of slabwood, $500 for a 6 cord load of slab wood. He doesn't sell any smaller (than I am aware of). If you are looking for 1 cord there is an Amish Mill down 301 on Old Mill Road that has slabwood periodically (if they are milling timbers or not) but I don't know how much they charge for a pick-up truck load.

I heat my house with wood and use my gas furnace as back-up incase the stove goes out while I'm not home. Hence why I'm looking for 6 cord. The slabwood works pretty well, but I'd like to see if I can get back to split hardwoods. I need to make a decision by this weekend and place my order as it's getting late and any further delays mean I get to be stacking the stuff in much colder weather than I prefer.

If the price is right I will piece wood together from multiple places, but I prefer to get it all from one source.

I live a mile outside of Lorain County in Brunswick, or you could have all of the five dead trees we had cut down and sawn into rounds. Three had been dead standing for at least a couple years, and the other two were alive on the bottom, but had more dead wood than green. Free to anybody in Medina county who can pick it up. Please take all of it.

Thanks everyone.

Well, due to time constraints I'm just gonna go with the slabwood for one more year. But I'm willing to get as many names as possible for next year. Probably gonna switch back to logs next year.

Don took two truckloads of firewood, thanks Don, but there are still lots more to haul away free. Just let me know when you can come.

A BIG THANK YOU to Dan for the firewood. I WISH I could have taken more but my BIL and I beat outselves up pretty good hauling those 100lb+ tree rounds out of the yard. By the time we got done with the second pick-up truck load we were gettin' pretty sore. Kind of did the "are you able to do one more load?" "Man, I don't think so. You?" "My arms are about to fall off" "OK, we're done."

He's still got a LOT of nice lumber there folks. I took those two loads which equaled *maybe* 3/4ths of one tree. He's got about 4 trees down total and cut into rounds. NICE firewood too. I'm probably gonna season it up a bit more over winter, after splitting it hopefully this week, and burn it next year.

But word of advice...bring some good strong help!
