Our 210 upgrade is underway!!!

gbtower, here are a couple of pics that might show what I was talking about.

This is the back right corner.

And this is the top of the stand.

I got the floor support in this evening. I took 2-2x8x8's and nailed them together and then put it purpendicular to the floor joists underneath the front of the tank and put 3 adjustable floor supports underneath that on each side and in the center. 2-2x2's are nailed to the floor joists on both sides of the new joists to keep the joist from slipping out.

Off to get the tank in the a.m. and the drilling of the closed loop should be done on Wednesday. :)

Seriously... your gonna put nearly a ton of water on that stand? I dunno buddy... :eek1: Looks really sharp though  BTW: Are you putting the ZEO reactor under the tank or in the basement???

PUGroyale, how does this stand differ from a factory built stand?

Had to go and fowel the thread with talk of that 'Zeovit' stuff, didn't you?

I really don't know  Maybe I'm just a worrier :D It's just a massive amount of water as you're well aware. Can't wait to see the progress

I am not for or against ZEOvit either... I just wanted you to know that

We should combine our resources! I have a 210 waiting for a stand! lol Seriously though, it looks good. keep the pics coming!

Well, you can't have my stand. This stand, which will hold 2 tanks was cheaper to have built that a store bought stand that will only hold one tank. Sure, it's not as fancy but looks good just as good.

PUGroyale, nothing wrong with being a worrier. Sometime's I wonder myself. Although, if you can't trust a wood master, who can you trust? :)

Went and picked up the tank this a.m. and now it's just waiting to be drilled. We also picked up the new frag tank that will be plumbed into the sump in the basement. It's a 30gal. cube that is 24x24x12. Here's a couple of pics.

Probably going to get the holes drilled in the floor this evening for the drains and return. Otherwise, not much more going to happen until the tank is drilled and bulkhead order arrives.

Yeah this stand is no different (other than being alot nicer) than any aga stand and their's are made from pine. It really spooked me the first time I saw a 125 aga stand. I have built smaller stands than this basically the same as this and they are surprisingly strong when together. The way the back was made will keep it from racking.

Strong joints made by a skilled carpenter go a long way.

Closed loop holes are being drilled in the morning and this is the plan I was thinking. But you never know, it may change. :)

Just a thought, but before you drill it, are you going to paint the back wall with blue or black? i suggest painting first so you limit chances of getting paint in the tank...

I'm going to paint the back black. I'll just tape off the holes and be careful with the paint, shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks Horkn, what do you think about this stand since your a woodworker?

i personally would have overbuilt it.. but theres no real such thing as over building something (unless you throw your back out moving it) but if its underbuilt, then you will know it...

its hard to judge what will and wont hold, when everybody overbuilds stands nowdays.. but like you said before, the AGA ones really look flimsy, but work apparently.. it appears your stand is built better than the AGA ones, so you shouldnt worry, but i would test it before really filling it, its probaly a good idea with 210 gallons of water to test to make sure it holds anyways:D

Drilling is complete and went rather smoothly. The larger holes chipped a little more than expected, but won't be a problem. The back is also painted and i'll get started on the plumping of the closed loop when the paint is dry.
