Our 75g at six months!

The monti has only been in this tank for 6 months, but was in our 40 breeder for about a year and a half. I am fish'inmn's younger brother, so I figured I would update this thread with a new (and crappy!) FTS of our new aquascaping.

As you can see the GSP mountain is now gone, and were very happy with how it turned out. The big monti cap is going out of control with growth so its good we made more space for it. It 6 weeks, it grew at least an inch all the way around. Thanks, Charlie

solar wrasse are awesome fish! active swimmers at all levels and very peaceful. be very cautious with an open top. mine was a jumper and almost all others i have known were jumpers also.
looks great though and nice work with the camera

I have the same size tank and bulb selection as you. I swapped out my Aquasun for a 10,000k and couldnt be happier. I really did not like the look of the Aquasun, way too pink. I still thiink my tank is a little on the blue side with the 2 Blueplus and 1 Super Actinic.

Eros, what 10K bulb did you go with. We have a few ideas about changing bulbs, like switching out the aquasun (which i agree is an ugly pinkish/yellowish color) with an aquablue, and maybe the super actinic with a fiji purple or something of the like.

I picked up the only 10k they had at the fish store since they told me I could swap it if I didnt like it. I will probably pick up something name brand but I just wanted to see how this one looked before I went through the trouble of ordering without knowing exactly what it would look like. I felt my tank had plenty of blue. They had an 18k I was thinking about getting but they couldnt tell me exactly what it looked like and I wasn't sure. FWIW I still think my tank is overly blue with the 10k. I'm thinking of switching out a blueplus for something less blue, or changing the Super actinic as you suggested. One thing I do like is to run just one blueplus and the super actinic in the evenings as my late light cycle because I think it looks nice in my living room when hanging out with out putting too much light in the room. For now I am quite happy, but that pink bulb had to go. I hated it from day 1. Hope I've helped. I will take a pic of my tank and put it up so you can see how it looks before deciding.

We have 1/2" fiberglass mesh tops, I forgot to get a picture of those. The wrasse will definitely be getting a few females when the next upgrade occurs, and I can't wait to see his colors then.

eros: We run the front blue + and the superactinic (also in the front) on the later half of our photoperiod as well, and it does look amazing! We figured out this weekend that the corals directly under the Aquasun, or the parts of corals directly under the Aquasun, are growing much faster than anything else. You can kind of see this in the last FTS on the green acro, "green slimer", on the left. The one random branch sticking straight up is actually about an inch above the rest of the colony. Probably won't help my case for keeping the Aquasun though!

I'm sue the Aquasun are great bulbs, everyone recommends them. my problem was tha the casted a pink glow directl underneath them the length of the tank, ver unnatural looking. plus I don't have man corals now so no biggie. I swapped the pure actinic with the 10k so it goes front-blueplus-10k-actinic-blueplus. I have the first and 3rd bulbs on the same circuit for more even lighting

I have a 30g with
Blue+
Aquablue
Aquasun
Blue+
Do you think I could take out the Aquasun and replace with actinic. That would only give me three growing bulbs. That seems to be enough for your tank, and I pretty much have the same kind of corals, except for less sps. You are just getting great growth from 3 bulbs, although my bulbs are not overdriven just HO

I'd probably leave the aquasun in place. Or if you change it, do it with something with a bit more output than the actinic bulbs. Otherwise, the tank looks great!

Beautiful tank. I have the same t5 you have but not the same effect of yours. I was wondering what bulb combination you are using?

Marty,
Here are some pics of my tank. I tried to post them last night but I must have forgot to submit my post. Anyway, please excuse the bare tank, it's only 2 weeks old.
Here is a pic of just the 10k and one blueplus

Here's a pic of all 4 bulbs. From front to back its Blueplus-10k-actinic-blueplus.

Here's a shot of what the actual bulb looks like

Hope this helps. I say go out and pick up a $20 10k and see if your LFS will let you return it if you don't like it.

Thanks for the post eros. We have a local shop that would probably let us test a few bulbs and I know they'll recommend the Procolor bulb as the first test, which I wouldn't mind at all. We'll see what happens.

I should note that the last FTS my bro posted is not quite the actual color since we forgot to put the canopy 'door' on. The photos on the first page are about spot-on for color.
