Our Marineland 300 DD

When you wind up buying that beast, I'll be glad to assist carrying it in. I'm sure you'll have it looking as awesome as your 300. Heck, I hope I can get the 120 I'm in the process of setting up looking half as good as your 300! Sorry if I missed it but where did you get your live rock from?
Thanks for the help it will be in the spring and I will make sure to get in depth with the tank build I would like to share how I was able to tear down and aet up with out losing and live stock. The rock was collected over the years and it is primarily Marshall island rock the rest I got from Midwest Reefs.

Wow looks great!! I love the all yellow tangs. Do you mind sharing your stocking list?

WOW! Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! It's wonderful to see your success. I am stocking my 225 reef now and I'm taking some ideas from your rock work! Hope you don't mind! :)
I read the whole thread and I thought I read that you had the large powder blue tang first then introduced the smaller one? My PBT is in quarantine now with an Atlantic Blue and a Kole Tang, humm...maybe I should try a baby sized PBT now?
I always love to watch the fishes interact. Loved your discription of how they look for each other when they can't see the other one.
Thank you for sharing and best wishes on your 1000 gallon tank!

Here is a pic that I have found of the lighting installed in the canopy. The reflectors are LumenMax single ended 250w. I will post more pic's in detail this weekend my wife has been avoiding the topic of taking the canopy off to take pic's, she hates to help with getting the top off. I can't say I blame her LOL.

Gorgeous tank, Emilio!
Your experience and patience really show in this build.
Any way we can talk you into a close up pic of the overflow mods?
I'm installing the same tank next month and am quite concerned about the capacity of the overflows. I plan on using all four bulkheads in the overflows as drains like Jeff did with his 300 DD.

I will I need to get pics of the lighting and I will get the pics of the overflows they are very similar to what Jeff did on his 300.

Maybe a pic of your sump also . I'm looking at putting a 60 x16x16 under mine... Trying to see what options i have... Thanks Gary

Here are some better pic's of the canopy with the lighting mounted into it.

Here are some pic's of the overflows that were cut out wider and deeper to handle more flow.

Thanks for the canopy pics.. I've been looking and found the 17.5x14.5x5 lumen max elites and gonna give then a try.. Think will give a little more spread for that 36"... Thanks for the updates looking good....

Emilio,

Which reflectors are you running in your canopy? I am getting the same canopy. I'd really like to go MH but I am concerned about the limited space and heat.

Do you light your current lighting? With hindsight, would you do something different?

Many thanks,
-Mike

Dude, I love the aquascaping. Been on a few shallow dives and it looks just like that. I noticed you have quite a few caps and tables pretty high up. Any concerns that they will shade too much?

I'm subscribed! Great build, its nice to see Missouri being represented so well. I remember seeing this tank at MWReefs before you bought it and thinking that it was just insane. Now, after another year has passed, it seems more reasonable. I keep showing the wife pix of it, but she hasn't bit yet. Hoping to do a 200 DD, Steve is a pretty good guy to work with.

My reflectors are Lumenmax 2. I have to give all the credit to Steve at Midwest reefs this was going to be his tank but he went with the 200DD instead. I must say he has a wall hammer that almost consumes the entire tank. He explained to me that there is a long brace that runs the length of the canopy on the top inside. This needed to be removed and the brace relocated to be able to install the lumenmax 2 reflectors. The spread is great on them, no shadow cast from the "I" beam centerbraces that we have on these tanks. I added the uv covers for the DBL ended HQI Lumenmax 2 reflectors, to guard the finish on the reflectors from salt and corrosion. There is no shift or change that I have noticed by adding them. The reflectors sit 5" above the water, to my surprise no heat from this. I have 4 fans that draw air in on both sides, the canopy top is well vented. Temp stays at 80, the highest I have seen it ever get is 81. My room temp is set at 75 all year. The actinic lighting is VHO and it hits the mark in my application. I feel T5 have there place but fall short for my application, I would need a bank of T5, using up all the room under the canopy, when 2 160w VHO slice through. I tried T5........I will leave my personal thoughts out. Mark I hope this helps, the pics I have posted are general shots. If needed I can get better ones up for you.
