Our Marineland 300 DD

I need to come check out your tank. How do all your yellows get along? Have they always played well together?

That is sweet!

There's a reason I am just iching to set up a deep dims tank and you've nailed it!

The only thing I noticed is there were all the same size. Then one of the yellow tangs grew to about 5in and apears to be the lead tang in the school the others follow the larger one every place it goes. The rest of the tangs in the tank paired up but I wish there was a way to find out which one was the female or male?

WOW amazing extremly nice, So by adding all the tangs together causes no situations? I need to know the method would love to add as many tangs you did.

Thank you everyone for the nice comments. I Love tangs they are by far my most prized animals. I did a lot of homework on them before I added any years ago. The one thing that works for me is the depth of the tank, aquascaping, diet and when they were added. All my tangs were added all at once with the exception of the Powder blue, Naso blonde and the lager Purple tang. These fish I have had for well over 6 years. I had them in my 155 bowfront prior to the 300. I was very lucky to get 2 Powder blues to pair up but when I added the little one in the lager Powder blue dashed up, I thought OMG here we go!! But they started to swim in a up and down pattern then the next day the were inseperable. The Sohal tangs, Purple tangs and Regal tangs all paired up the same way. One thing to keep in mind is the size of tank you have with tangs I would say the bigger the better. In the spring I am hoping to upgrade again to a 1000 gallon so I can continue to enjoy all the tangs

I would love to add that many tangs within my system but always advised not to do so. But I am glad it worked out for you maybe I should try and give it a shot. The tangs were all relativly small when first placed?

Also question about your bio load how is that effectivly managed?

Bio load is managed thru 40 gallon water changes a week and my skimmer PM Bullet XL2. I would say plan it out and make sure you have plenty of room in your tank! Also think of the long run with these fish are you going to keep them long term? or trade them in when they get too big? I have decided to grow in tank size as the fish get larger. Oh and yes I have only 2 Purple tangs the 3rd one in that pic, I was tang sitting for a friend.

very very well thought out and put together your aqua scaping is GREAT!
when i do my 240 i was thinking about using 3 400 watt MH's w/T5,s but you are doing fine with just 3 250 watt/VHO's
i may rethink my choice of lighting @ least in the MH's
thanks for sharing
BTW do you have any build up pics?

VHO work the best for me, I like the concept of T5's but in my opinion you would have to run several to compare to only 2 6' VHO's. Again it is my opinion on the costs also, replacing 2 VHO's bulbs are way cheaper then replacing 4 T5 bulbs to do the same function. 400w MH are very nice and will color up SPS like no other. I use to run 400's I did notice the POP in color did change a little when I went down to 250w. But the POP in my electric bill went down also! As for progession pic's I did not take any. I really never thought about posting my tanks untill a good friend of mine suggested I should so others can get ideas. I can say this, when we upgrade to the 1000 gallon in the spring there will be step by step photo's. Thanks for the nice comments! The credit has too go to all the other reefers out there I just too ideas and made a set up of my own. If I look back at what my set up was, I laughed at what I knew then vs what I know now.

This is the tank of my dreams... LOL I have also purchased this same tank about 6 months ago.. I have been looking on RC for awhile to find out what is possible to fit under that very shallow hood. If you could , would you put some pics up of the canopy lighting and of layout of the sump. I am going to have to keep everything self contained under the tank... Thanks Gary
