Our Mini 425 Ocean

tbone that's what hes doing, look at the diagram bro. please excuse him as its past his bedtime

Eric,
I moved the sand from my 65g into my 280 without a problem. I believe as long as it's alive it really isn't going to do much. With your system I think it's just a drop in the bucket - JMO.

Tbone - In the 75 I purchased 80lbs live and put in 300lb of play sand so about 6 inchs. I thin I will get another 100 play sand for the move.

Bart - Funny bedtime.hehehehehehhe LOL heheh Typing on the couch at night with a newborn in 1 hand and a dog a sleep on my foot is a skill for me. Love the new avaitar

Carol - You know there was only a little sand from my existing tanks in the fuge. All of it was new live and play. So there isn't a whole lot of pop in it. I just had a couple tangs I got from a friend. I put them in the display so I can do the move. I might not be able to do it this weekend since I need to order another 2 in bulkhead. I wonder if there is a place local that has them. I doubt it. It looks like another order for savko.

dog- Thanks. It is a lot of work. Truly amazing how some of the people here have the systems they do with there families. An enormous amount of work, research, time, and money.

Alright I am going to make a list an order some plumbing parts. This weekend I am going to pick up the 100 or 1500 rubber maid. Thanks everyone again for the input.

Oh yeah.. I am starting to have second thoughts about using the foam in my display. I started on one of the overflows yesterday so I can get the aquascape done. With putting the rest of my fish in the display I want to make sure they have enough places to hide. I also think adding new fish while moving stuff around helps out with the aggression from the older fish. My concern is if the foam will eventually down the road leach anything into the tank. It really sucks because I already started and like the way it is starting to come out. People have been talking about it on Tiggys thread with the foam. I noticed some film on the top of my nano when I put it in. I know there wasn’t enough flow. And thought that was part of it. I didn’t clean the sand or crushed coral before I glued it to the pillar and the water was murky but it did clear up. I just don’t want to do anything to my live stock.

well, all I can say about the foam is that I know that the coatings will break down over time from light exposure. I used the black pond foam in my FW Planted tank about 2 years+ ago and it is still moslty intact, but I did not use any top-coat on it. Now real problem with algae yet.

During the sum move I want to plan out my skimmer. I need to get a better skimmer. I wanted to build one but might just buy one due to my time issues. This is getting high on my list. it will be gravity fed but want to figure if it will go in the sump or external. So far with out a frag I will have close to 450 total volume. I am not going to worry about a frag tank until at least next year. I think I am going to move the qt under the display first.I really would love to just ordeer a big pump and make a square like Johnathans. Or I could use my dart and put a hammer head for my return. Hmmmm.

I will get some pics of the start of the office and overflow this weekend.

I agree with Carol, It's not a lot of sand, especially since you're adding 300# more. I see your existing 80# as a source to seed your new sand.

J- I am putting resin on it but still afraid. And I used the stuff from HD. it says water resistant not water proff. I think I will just coat the crap out of it and then down the road swap it out for some diy rock. Or hopefully new tank hhehehe..Hopefully around the time of anew tank this grass hopper will be ready for 1000g.:bum:

It currently has 380. 80 was live and 300 was play. On the move I will add another 100 or 200. I hope I don't hurt any pods on the move I just got them established oh well hey will come again.

an exit strategy is always good! :D

Trying to be prepared. I just love the look compared to my plain overflow. I don't think it would bother me as much on a wider tank.

Hi everyone. Not much to update. I am in Germany for training currently, but snapped some pics before I left. I left my memory card reader but have a couple on my LT.

I did get to start on the office desk and cabinets. I still need to stain, saving the tank doors for last. The tank doors and cabinets will all be the same stain.

I am trzing to finish the overflows so I can finish the aquascape. I didnt want to make it look crowded with a lot of rock, but at the same time I wanted to give the fish plenty of space to hide. I love having a lot of fish. Here is a start of 1 of the overflows. I just used mz overflow cover instead of egg crate. It was a lot stronger.

I made a new diagram of my sump and fuge. As soon as Iget back I am going to start on this. I am going to order some supplies and hope they will be there when I return. Here is a little pick of the new setup.
NewSump.jpg

I went a purchased some furniture. The tank is viewable from a little formal living room, dinning room, and my office. I can also see it from my outside porch. As soon as I can get them loaded I will post the pics..

Thanks everyone. I wanted a lot of desk space and storage. So doing cabinets was the way to go for me. All I need is a book shelf too match and cover the office side of the tank. I found some decent oak doors on ebay cheap. I might just do a bunch of them for the tank cover. Then I will stain everything to match. I am stuck with oak since that is what the cabinets facing is.

I really want to start making a mantel to finish the living room side. For an idea I went to Home depot to see how much they were if I just ordered 1. They went from 500-1000. Thats way to much for some crown molding, so I will have to make it. i am going to see if I can the rest of the pics uploaded somehow..
