My Love for all American Staffordshire terriers
1st sorry for the long reply I am stuck in hotel…
I see your point and appreciate your views, but I am pro making my own decision. I agree with you and also believe some people should not be allowed to even own an animal like this or any big dog for that reason. I guess since anyone can be a Parent anyone can own a PIT. I don’t think anyone should be allowed to have a large dog without a basic obedience class. I mean a car is a weapon but you need a license.
My dog is registered from the Miami Blue lines. I have owned these dogs for about 20 years. About 12-14 years ago they were made illegal in my home town Miami. If you already had 1 you had to get insurance on them, keep them in a kennel with a muzzle. The fact at that time they were more German Sheppard and Rot Wilier attacks then pit bulls. The pit bull attacks were with out a doubt the most violent and sometime fatal. The humane society put all Pit Bulls they received asleep in South FL. There was no chance for adoption. I am not sure if that is still the way they do it now. That being said I am totally aware of what these animals are capable of. The heart that pits have is one of my favorite traits. I did a lot of research on there history.
When I took my dog to the vet for his first shoots, a vet aid told me “I am going to Neuter himâ€Â. I said No, I don’t think so right now I really want to take my time and think about this. She raddled on and then told me I guess you don’t love your dog. That fu###in pi$$$ed me off. This person that doesn’t know me would make a statement like that to me, while I am paying there over rated fees because my fiancé at the time said they were a real good VET. So of course I never went back. There veterinarian called me and apologized but I moved on.
I feel Pits and all big dogs require an educated owner. A little while back I was in Pet Supermarket getting some stuff for my dog and give him a little time to get acquainted to new situations. Some guys Doberman almost knocked me out the way trying to get to my dog. He had 1 of those extendable leaches. So I guess his dog was walking him. I had to grab my dog fast. Now if I wasn’t paying attention and our dogs got into a confrontation I am sure it would sound something like pit bull attacked dog in the store. I honestly was glad this happen because I got to put my dog into a rough situation so he could learn. These were the types of thing we did at some of my training classes long ago.
Huhh I just remember I got kicked out of a class. Some guys German Shepard snipped lunged at me and I had to grab my female. The instructor apologized to me and told me straight out he saw I had control of my dog. He was not kicking me out for that they just did not want to be responsible because it was a pit. So I received my money back and had to find another class. I was able to finally track down trainer who helped train dogs for the police station. He was also into Schutzhund training. That was quite some fun. And yes a pit can obey a release command after the bite command was set. It does take a little work. I haven’t found anyone with my teacher’s knowledge for years until I saw Caesar Millen the Dog Whisper on TV. He is truly the man.
Here are some quick facts
Pit Bulls score an 83.4% passing rate with the American Temperament Test Society. That's better than the popular Border Collie (a breed who scores 79.6%).
Pitbulls have been our Mascots in both World Wars. They serve as narcotic, therapy, and search and rescue dogs all over the world.
Sgt. Stubby. A Pit Bull war hero. Stubby was wounded in action twice, he saved his entire platoon by warning them of a poison gas attack and he single handedly or Pawley captured a German spy.
Anyway sorry I let OCD get the better of me. Dogs and Cars were my first true passions so I am sure you understand. Here is a cool link.

Pitbull History:
The history of the pitbull isn’t something that is etched in stone, nor is it something that man should be entirely proud of. While we gained a loyal and loving companion, many generations of dogs have suffered through cruel blood sports like bear and bull baiting and dog fighting.
Pitbulls are one of the ancient breeds of dogs, dating well back into the late 1700’s. Originally bred to bait bear, bull and boar, Bulldogs needed courage, strength and athleticism. When the blood sport of baiting was outlawed back in 1835 they began to pit the dogs against each other, and thus the popularity of dog fighting was born.
The closest ancestors to pitbulls were the Irish and English pit fighting dogs known as the Bull & Terrier. Many were imported to the United States in the 19th century and were used mostly as fighting dogs, but always as companions. The fighting dogs knew no human aggression; those that displayed this trait were culled. They went home with their families, slept with the children and worked in the ring.
As far back as the pre Civil War era pitbulls have been proving themselves as dedicated companions.
