I just spent three hours reading through this thread, what did I get out of it? Envy and a wet keyboard, amazing build,
Will be tagging along!
ps you need MORE pics

Haha, I agree it's a nice build :)
But how did you spent 3 hours on a short (so far) thread?

Sorry Eric just caught up with your thread - great build. I have a GlassCages tank(280) and it has the black plastic trim also. Make sure you use the 3/4 foam or GC will not stand behind the tank. The only place I found it here in FL was at Lowes and it's a light blue. They had lots of it in Pinellas Co so hopefully you can find it down there.

damskim I need to get cracking.

I tried 2 home depots for the foam and found it at the one right by my house. I hope to get everyone over tomorrow to put it on the stand. Here are some pics of the foam.

I had to cut out area for the returns.

I put some tape on the foam hoping it will help it from shifting.

Hopefully tomorrow I can get some pics with it on the stand.....

Great idea to stabilize the foam with tape - both simple and, I'm sure, effective.

I figured it would slide a little. So I left an extra inch in front and 2 in the back. It worked ok.

very nice eric I see you are moving along .I am glad you found the foam.

The second Home Depot had it. It goes to show if you don’t find it one try another.

Nice Eric. Lets get that baby up on the stand.

Here she is up on her stand. It was a tight fit. Next house I will make sure there is an extra inch on each side. It took 5 of us. We could have did it with 4 barely but 5 was better.

Heavy..

Here is my 75 I am going to drill. Since my dog was wanting attention I let him pose for this PIC.

I got a tile bit for my dremel. I am having second thoughts and might just buy a diamond hole saw bit. Anybody have any in put either way?
:D

Ah, I just got that warm feeling in my chest looking at the tank in place. Can only imagine how you feel! :D

The dremel will work but take a LOT longer. If it's only one hole that might not matter. But the hole saws will be quicker and probably easier. If you want to go the hole saw route, check out www.thk.hk for them (he is the popular Lau that sells them on ebay too). :)

Thanks. Yeah the more the better and thanks for the link.

Hi Eric,
Great build!
These pics brought back a LOT of memories! I plumbed and wired that system!

SANFRANSKIMMER.jpg

It was way back in about 1995, when that WAS a big RK2 skimmer :D
It was a fun place to work, but didnt have a lot of cash, so it was all the more challenging. I also plumbed all the touchpools and built the surges. Plumbed most of the tanks you saw and the quarrantine area too. Boy did I sniff a lot of glue at that place!!:hmm4:

I used to sit on the moving walkway in the tunnels and eat my dinner on night watch.

Lots of great stories and experiences. Not the grandest place, but I have a lot of blood in it. Thanks for sharing the pics:)

PS: Who gave you the night tour?

Go with a hole saw, its quicker, and cleaner. I've done both methods, and the hole saw is definitely the way to go.
