Our new rose anenome

spellbound

Last Tuesday, July 10, I added a rose bubble tip anenome to our reef tank. I put it in the area I wished it to make home. I knew it would move some, but there were a lot of nice places for it to stay. It decided to move down a bit to a small ledge. On its way down part of the foot went into a hole and the other part continued down the backside. I was pretty sure the anenome ended up being split at this point, but until yesterday I could not 100% prove it. When I was feeding it I was able to see that there are two parts. The one part I know has a mouth as I've been feeding it and it is doing well. The other part deflated, shrivled and closed up (the reason I know there is two) and I was able to see it was totally separated. Later it fully opened again and continues looking good. Will it form a mouth? If so, how long before it forms a mouth? I've seen where many say their anenomes leave for about a week after splitting, but these two are out in full view, still as beautiful as when I purchased it, and eating very well the silverslides I offer. Will it be able to survive without getting food from me until then? What do I need to watch for so I know if things aren't going well? Thank you for your advice and help as I want to keep on top of this since it was not an intended split. I'll put up a picture as soon as I find the camera.

congrats,,, mine has split a few times as well...

it takes a few days... maybe a week or so for it to form a new mouth...

Thank you very much for your information. I'll be patient then. I think it finally finished moving-splitting on Saturday so it has only been a couple of days. I was just worried about it's need for food and the fact that neither part has stayed hidden after this ordeal. Both are out showing off to the world and both still look great.
As promised as soon as I find my camera I'll get some pictures. I think it may have gone home on Saturday. We had a Murder Mystery Tea here and I think it left with the clean up. At least I hope it did. We were very crowded and very busy.
Again, thank you for your help. I only want the best and when they get hurt in the tank I worry even more about them.

Good news, it was stretched out today and I saw a mouth. I offered it a small piece of silverside and it took it. I think my camera walked away, so you all will have to wait for pictures of this beautiful anenome (at least that is my opinion) until I can find another camera.
And thanks for all your information on this forum. As I have time I have acquired a good bit of information to keep this reef running well. I've found a LFS with a knowledgable owner too. So between the two of you this reef should prosper.

Some do and some don't it all depends upon conditions in your tank. Usually they move because they are looking for something that they aren't getting where they were, better light, flow etc, something is making them unhappy. Mine usually pretty much stay put until they are ready to split. Before you add one read up on them, make sure you can provide for their needs and you really want one in your tank then I say go for it. :)
