Out with the old, in with the new.

Well I got the tank put on the new stand tonight. I am going to paint it tomorrow and get the fish room cleaned out to start planning the plumbing. I am going to try to get the ac finished up tomorrow or Wednesday. I am trying to deiced if I am going to just use the 125g sump from our current tank which will fit under the new tank or, put the 150g in the fish room and build everything around it. If I can find something to use for a sump on our current tank I may just use the 125g to save some money and time since it has all the baffles in it already.

I know this guy who can build ya an killer sump out of acrylic.................

So do I, ;) I just wish I had the money to go that route. I need a sump asap so I can plumb this thing and start cleaning it. It will take at least a month to put money back for the acrylic. I really don't want to wait that long if possible.

Use the old. You are only talking 25 gallon difference. Use the 150 for other stuff like QT, Hospital, or frag. The 150 could even be split, so you have two QT or Hospital tanks.

If you really want to use it for the sump, you could make it your Mangrove Refugium and still keep the 125 as the sump. This way you don't have to put baffles into it, just drill it, make an overflow in it, mount it high in the fish room above the other tank, pump from the 125 to the 150, and do a gravity feed from the 150 into the display. That would be able to breed a bunch of pods and allowing for a self sufficient ecosystem.

I located a 55g I can turn into a temp sump for our 250 while I am getting the new tank ready. I am planing on calling this guy I know who does great acrylic work to make some custom sumps and QT tanks later this year ;) . I measured several times last night and the 125 will fit perfectly right where it needs to go.I am going to try to get some help this weekend to get the 125 out from under the 250 and carried out to the garage.

Well I have been plugging along slowly. Work has been keeping my very busy. Anyway I have the stand painted and ready for the sump. I am hoping to get some help Sunday so I can pull the 125g off my 250 and get it under the new tank. After that it will be just plumb the sump/ closed loop and I'm ready to refill it and add clean it.

So anyone wanna come help move a 125g sump Sunday or Saturday evening? LOL

Where are you located? There's plenty of large tanks in the area.

West Unity, 7 miles from Michigan and 15 from Indiana. Haven't come across many local reefers to me (the last one I met I bought his tank:) It does seem like there is a lot of activity in the Lima area.

Well the wife and I got the sump pulled out and taken to the new room. I got it plumbed today and full of water. The closed loop pump is just a temp pump until I get a better one. I need to pick up some more loc line for the closed loop and I will be ready to add some vinegar and start cleaning.

Dang your moving fast. I bet this is up and going in a few weeks. Now if we could just get the biitb deal pushed back a month or so......

I am stuck waiting on new sand now. I need about 500-600 pounds of sand so I need to save for a few weeks so I can order it. I am going to start on the PVC rock structure this weekend. I need to order some rock and then start filling it up with ro/di water.

I also got a good deal on some rscp. My lfs aquarium etc had a good deal, 200g mix for $50. I just wish my tank was ready now for his biitb sale. I need some new fish lol.

Well its been a while since I have done an update. I got the ac/heat system up and running finally. I got real lucky on sand, a guy in the area is getting completely out of the hobby and I got 8 buckets of sand from him. I spent about 2 days cleaning the sand and putting into the tank. I also got some rock from him as well. With the rock I got from him and the rock in my tank I now have plenty. I was also lucky enough to get a huge rock from a fellow reefer, about a 90# rock. Unfortunately we broke it when pulling it from his tank and I spent most of yesterday trying to epoxy and cement it back together to no avail. It was covered in different xenia and I tried to keep it going but it melted away when I put in in the new tank :( I think the temp was too low in my tank. On a good note the tank is full of salt water and most of my base rock. I need the temp to come up and I am going to start adding some fish to the system. I built a temp light rack to hold the halides until I get the hood built. I also got the biggest part of the equipment room done. I need 1pc of plywood and finish the paint and we will be ready. I have the frag tank sitting in place and ready to be cleaned. I have the kalk reactor in place just waiting to reinstall the mixing pump. Plans for this week are to finish the skimmer stand, plumb the brute can for salt water mixing, and finish painting the equipment room stand. So here are some updated pics,

Me buffing the inside of the tank, (still need to hit the outside)

This is a pic looking into the front of the tank, this is the rock that was broke and had xenia all over it.

Thanks, I am going to pick up a few things tonight and try to finish the painting tonight. The temp is now sitting at 78 so I am going to start adding some of the rock from my old system's sump to this one tonight.

Thanks, I got the painting done tonight. I am thinking about putting our skimmer on the new tank and just doing 5gal water changes daily to make up for the skimmer not being on the main tank. I am hoping to get some fish in the tank by this weekend and start changing to corals and clam over next weekend.

Well I got the skimmer up and running on the new system. I have been adding some of the rock from the old sump to the new system.Tomorrow I am going to stop and clean up the room and make a new list of what is left to be finished.
