Outy's 215 build

Hi Outy,

Nice tank you have there......those are some very larger euphyllias!

What is the current skimmer that your running on the 100g and I take it your going to use if on the 215?

Patrick

Thank You

if you look at the sump picture you can see the octopuss 250 recirc mesh modded next to the sump.

yep ill be using it as my bioload wont be changing at all unless I add some more fish. I love the low maintenance i have now with a light bio-load. the only maintanenance i really need to now is feed daily and clean pumps and skimmer as needed. water changes dont even need to be done regular the way its set up.

wa-hoo 126lbs of the 160lbs of marco sand I paid for showed up. Marco will be sending me another box. looks like I use what I have, plus the 20lbs I dug up in storage or wait a week thanks to marco to get the tank moved in and start cycling. marcos sand goes on the bottom since its so fine so this kind of puts me in a bind.

i love the rc helis....i have the entire align line.....

you need to get a 700e and 550 e above that tank....lol

hey Larry im sure I know you from RR or helifreak, names outhouse at both sites lol :)

if I built a 700e id do a suzi hans and the 550 im sure is a blast but im only 3 ish years into helis and still have allot of learning to do before I go hog wild lol.

building this tank my poor heli fleets been parked lately :) [well that and i dont like flying in 100f weather]

LOl there will be another foot of canopy now for another heli :)

progress :)

old 100g tank down and gone, and new 215g is in the house, on its stand, rinsed sand added and filling with fresh saltwater. Sand was seeded with 2 gallons from the 100g added last to the top layer. All plumbing is done to the basement sump.

I did get some help with the tank, called my buddy Dan over and he helped pick it off the ground and we put it on the stand. Dans a good friend and helped me move the 100g many many years ago when I first bought it. It only seemed right for me to give Dan the 100g stand and canopy and sump for his help over the years.

OK finally full of water and dust storm settled. I have a few branching hammer frags in there keeping an eye on things :)

I want to say about a third of my LR is in at this time. i'm not going to get carried away with LR as ill need room for allot of coral :)

Hello Outy,

Everything looks like it is coming together nicely....do you have any ideas on your rock structure for the 215? I did see you post about not wanting to add a tremendous amount more rock than you had in your previous tank.

Patrick

rock structures dont matter much to me, with all the coral you cant see much of it anyway and what you do see now will be hidden in a year or two.

I am going to build up the right side and have it gradualy fading to the left with a narrow tip on the far left middle.

on a side note i wish i didnt get koriala 7's. they may have to much flow. well 2 running at the same time will. ill need to get a wavemaker now.

Hello Outy,

I didn't know that the standard Koralias were wavemaker friendly.....what unit do you think you will use to control them?

BTW I like your plan for the rock structure....

Patrick

im pretty ****ed right now. the tank leaks

I had all but ten gallons and the overflows were not filled and it sat overnight and I didnt notice anything.

tonight I fired up the pumps and topped it off and no sooner did i get the loop up and running I noticed water slowly dripping down the front. all bulkheads are perfect and not seeping or leaking.

there was salt creep under the tank when i bought it. I assumed that it was from him spilling water on it as he got his equipment and sand and rock out. he also had the tank 3/4 filled and I wondered about why he had left it like that.

anyway its 1 am and im trying to drain the tank before I have to get up and work in the morning

standard koralias aren't wavemaker friendly. They won't last long.

the corner i suspected had a bursted air bubble in the silicone. the bubble went all the way where the glass pains touch each other so I strongly believe i have the leak identified. I cut all the silicone out in that area and have applied GE 1 clear silicone and its drying.

this time tomorrow i really hope to get water back in and it up and running, not sure how long my fish are going to like that 20g tub with LR and branching hammer frags

ok so heres the busted seam, you can see the fine sand inside the bursted air bubble.

I scraped away the old silicone 1" in all directions of the burst bubble and cleaned the glass and overlapped GE #1 silicone so it would get a good seal even to the old silicone in place

silicone has cured 48 hours so filling has begun

pretty stressfull 2 days

Ok tank is full and so far no leaks, last time it was this full leaking was obvious and already seaping down the front of the tank.

2 brand new 60" 454 VHO's are on :)

doors have been installed and painted to match the living room color

keeping my fingers crossed :)
