Overflow problem help please

New tank. The hole in the elbow seems to big. More water is going out the hole where then the power is off the little vent hole the out the end of the pipe. Think return pipe might be to short.

i would install a check valve and get everything tight fitted and then there will be no more noise and you won't have to worry about water siphoning back... for the mean time you could wrap tape around the nozzle end then insert it to make it fit snug

What size of return pump are you using gph? Increase the gph add more water and it should work.

This is a 150 cube tank with one overflow. It seems that there is not enough water in the overflow box because there is little to none coming into the in take grate. I can turn up the water pressure with the ball valve but to much water sprays out the little hole (vent hole on return pipe) and sprays the wall. Its a Mag drive 12.

I'm using a mag 7' 700 gph with 4.5 feet of head = around 500 gph I get a waterfall not a trickle.

How much head do you have? Have you checked to make sure there is no air in the pump....seems like a mag 12 would be Niagara Falls ....I'd run the pump full power with no ball valve just angel it down so it doesn't spray the walls.

The hole in your return line is too high above the surface.
Plug it with something and drill another hole right at the water level or maybe a 1/4" above it.
If you drill a hole in the 90 degree elbow going to the drain just big enough for some airline to fit through (holding the drill vertical at the peak just as it begins to bend) and put about 10" of airline in with 2" left sticking out it should work fine

Im shooting 10' 5" with the Mag 12 pump. Iv cut down my pump buy like 3/4 closed any higher flow I blow water to side of tank and then the wall with this pre drilled hole that came with this overflow kit.

I don't think you need a hole in your return at all. They are only meant for returns when they are more than a 1/2" below the water level. You can position your return so that it is slightly below the water surface, or if you want it to be deeper, than as others have suggested put a small hole right around the water line when your tank is full.

You are restricting your return too much.
You need a Y with two lock lines that will allow you to open up that mag 12.
And I would remove the fan thing, you want to push more water faster into the tank.
Actually, take the black lock line off and just lay a plastic bag over the return to keep the water in the tank.
Then shoot another vid with the mag 12 wide open.

RA that was what I was thinking. Why the hell is there a hole in the pump side pipe. I think it only needs it going back to the sump. Gravity only work one way last I checked. The reason for the one pipe is because they shorted me about 3 links of flex pipe so I toke the Y part out to get the flex pipe out of the overflow box. Not sure where this store got there kit from. Uncle salty 05 not sure what fan thing your talking about? The Y black lock? and yes the pump side is almost closed do to the pump pipe elbow hole spraying everywhere.

I think I need a new elbow and more black lock. I wonder if home depot has this elbow?

If you get another elbow, get one without the reducer, and get larger lock line to fit it.
By "fan thing" I am talking about the fitting on the end of the black lock line closest to the water.
If you pump enough water, the hole in the return that is splashing will be under or at the surface.
And your drain should function properly.
In the original vid I did not notice how low the waterline was from the rim of the tank.

Well the guy at home Depot has no idea what LOC- Line is. LOL where can you buy it at this hour. Pet store is out of this size just my luck.

You don't have to use lock line.
I don't. I have a 3/4" PVC manifold with 3 outlets running the length of my tank with a 45 degree elbow on each outlet so I can direct my flow pretty much anywhere.
Over the weekend I need to clean, sand and re-paint mine. I will take some pics after it is spiffed up.

Replaced elbow, drilled hole into Lock-Line on the tank side so it did not have to spray 5 inch. like it did on the overflow box side. I also turned down ball valve on return side. Not so bad now. Thanks guys.
