Overflow question?

I understand how the aqualifter pump draws air out of the overflow tube. My question is: could i drill a small hole in the top of the tube to release air? Thanks in advance.

I would think that the water would flow out, unless it was above the flow, like a tube glued or siliconed to the hole. My Weir has piece of airline jambed up from the outlet up to the top, I can't recall ever loosing the siphon on any of my tanks. The pump, IMHO is an energy consuming design- I can feel Ya', hope this helps. TinMan

Nope. You would just lose the syphon. The aqualifter pump is a band-aid for a poor design.

The only overflow I would use is a U-tube style. I run a Lifereef on my 125 and have never had a problem with it.

As above. If the overflow tube collects air, and needs a pump to draw it out, there is a problem. An overflow siphon tube should never collect any air to begin with.

Ok thanks for the help. I do have a U tube in it, I had just heard that they can build up air over time. I just set this up last weekend. Just trying to stay ahead of the game. ( If thats possible) Thanks again.

Keep an eye on it for a few days. If it is a good overflow and has sufficient flow through it, you should be fine.

Yes, if its a good utube design like the lifereef or hurricane, it should not loose its siphon with a good flow.
