Every once in a while someone asks what an ovipositor looks like in a female clown. I was able to get a pic today during the spawn. I threw in a couple other pics for good measure.

Ovipositor on female perc. Sorry it was taken through dirty glass from the back of the tank.

Pic from the front of the tank with the male making his pass. You can see a few eggs at the crest of the rock.

Recently paired orange skunks in the same 60 gal tank as the spawning percs. The larger fish was the male in my spawning pair but the female jumped out of the tank. Now he gets to be the mom if everything goes well.

nice I was asking fer those shots a few times!

Im still not seeing any eggs but im not convinced they arent there.

my clowns have been cleaning the heck out of a new space of rock about 45 minutes before lights out so im getting confident.

the ovipositor is larger than i thought it would be!

Here are some more pics- Pink skunk ovipositor

........Phender, how do you pull of 2 pairs in the same tank?

It helps to have two species that are relatively docile and don't look that much alike in shape or color pattern.
I think it also helps that the anemones are on the far opposite sides of the aquarium and that the anemones are the natural host to the clowns in that anemone, but not the other clowns.
The last factor is that both percs and orange skunks are very much home bodies who like to stay in their anemone rather than wander the tank.

I just asked this question over in the fishbreeding forum (doh!). Is my female starting to show hers (she hasn't spawned before)? How long from drop to spawn, on average? Thanks!

Mine are already biting the nesting site and moving over it mimicking their egg laying fro a few hours before the ovipositer is out. Are they doing that? Not to be indelicate, but when they poop there can be a structure that looks like your pic. Not sure what it is anatomically though.
