owenspackmans 180 Reef upgrade build.

I actually placed a towel in just after I started, the tape held the glass in place once it broke through.

Tape and silicone, I'm guessing you place the tape down where you want the outer edge of your silicone before you apply? Once the silicone is dry, use the razor on the inside of the tape to cut excess silicone and remove tape?

Yes, you got me, the car QA already there but I made sure to get her in shot.

The tape work just like taping off for painting. However I wouldn't wait until it completely dries to to remove. The silicone is pretty thick stuff, so once you have finished pumping it into the space remove the tape. You won't need to worry about drips. The razor is just to clean up any excess. It will take you sometime to prep it but it will like nice.

The car is nice, and deserves to be shown off.

feel like i made some progress today and it's all coming together. Started the baffles on the sump/refugium. Followed the design of my original one from my 120 but also adapted to it use Brians (bpcardona) design for easy filter sock removal and change.

I found on my old sump when the drains flowed directly into the socks it created a lot of bubbles and foaming. I'm hoping this design will eliminate a lot of this.

After the cuts, checking placement and design.

Hey that's my name!

I have to tell you I liked seeing you using it. I think you will be extremely happy with it. I like your improvement, ie the release on the bottom of the chamber. I also like your silicone work. It looks great and getting close to being done. Keep up the great work.

PS I haven't seen the puppies or wife in the photos lately. Have they got tried of your aquatic habits.

You hit the nail on the head there. I think they're all just ready for it to be built and all the mess and dust to be gone. I did get help today though with the sump, so I can't complain, they've been very supportive!

I am expecting my dosing pumps and apex system to arrive this week. The tank should be delivered in 3 weeks.

I tested the sump/refugium today to test for silicone leaks and flow pattern. All went well.

another new toy arrived today, my dosing pump. This was an ebay purchase, could end up being trash, we'll see. But the price made it worth the risk.

I passed on one of these becuase I was worried about accuracy. Please provide a review when you get it in use!

I can understand your concern. I'll be doing some testing prior to using to check that the doses are consistent.

I'll let you know how it performs!

Doors

Doors

I've been battling the doors and hinges recently. I obviously made my doors in a weird way that made it hard to find a hinge to work without the trim hitting the cabinet front. I tried cabinet hinges and still no luck.

My previous cabinet didn't use hinges, the door slotted into place and dropped in and out, this was nice and allow maintenance and access really easy not having a door obstructing.

My better half had a idea that i thought was crazy at the time. Using magnets. Well, we went to Lowes, picked up a number of strong magnets, epoxied them to the back of the door and the inside of the cabinet, let it set and wow! Works amazing. The doors stay firmly in place and they're easily pulled out when needed.

These is not a user friendly device to set up. Set up on my network now and i can access from my cell and from other computers. Still getting wireless set up. Cant wait to start programming it to run the tank!

Update! Today was spent working on the side of the cabinet. What was done....

* Build shelf for dosing pumps.
* Installed old iPhone to run AI Director, Apex and Aquaplanner app. (this idea was taken from ryno212....)
* Installed Apex system.
* Place black vinyl of the back of sump and placed sump inside cabinet.

It's coming along!

I used to have my RO/DI in a bathroom, but had trouble with float valves failing and would find puddles of water on the floor......so, no more risking that!

Tubes now run through the wall into the garage which is epoxied, so some puddles are not problems!

I will be purchasing some better, larger containers some time soon.

A power outage would be the same as always, everything shuts down until power is restored. Then everything switches back on as programmed on the Apex. The iPhone would stay on because of the battery but it wouldn't be connected to the Director or Apex as they would be powered down.
