Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

Ha..I am the guy that wants that to happen. Last year, we were on one of the new ship that replaced the Costa Concordia, in Brasil. I did not tell my wife until we were on the ship that it was the same cruise line and a new ship :).......so mean

That's just so wrong. Surprised she didn't throw you overboard..
I spent a few years of my life on missile tracking ships so I have had my share of rough rides. The Mrs keeps asking to do a cruise, and I politely refuse. Maybe some day. We have been looking at the Viking River Cruises through Europe for our 25th anniversary. I could probably deal with that..but my ocean going days are done.
Enjoy your trip!

Happy Sunday guys! Quick update on the dragonet . This little guy is a fatty...every time I'm preparing to feed him, he goes to that one spot. Whenever I start dropping the feeder down, he looks up then gets into Attack mode and waits patiently for his food.

Also, would anyone be interested in a DIY refugium build for our tanks? My cheato has been flourishing and would to help you guys and gals do the same

Let me know!

Wow! Over 2000 posts. Do I have to read the whole thing to find out if any of you are replacing the pump that came with your Fusion 40 with something a little more powerful in order to increase the flow a little? I hate putting a powerhead on the wall of such a pretty tank. If so, what are you using?

Few people are using the Sicce Syncra 1.5 or 2.0 I believe. The Jebao DC3000 also works very well and has adjustable flow.

Yes over 2000 posts. We rehash things a lot and torture each other on various subjects. But we are a happy group for the most part. Welcome!

The sicca silent 2.0 fits best..eheim 2000+ too, but a very tight fit.
For dc control, the jebao dc3k works as osiviper mentioned..
Powerheads are a way of life...find one that aesthetically pleases you and go for it. Your tank will be happier!

go with the sicce 2.0. Great fit, and you can easily pull it out and clean it.

Reduck, I have heard that cruise from viking is suppose to be amazing. My parents want to go on it. For us, our daughter a little young. They are coming with us too, for babysitting purposes. Amazing how you can bribe grandparents.

Thank you for your service. My father was on nuclear submarines, and my brother-in-law was on some ships some where for some time all are still classified as he was intelligence.. but thank you.

I feel the tank is stable. Going to do a water change before leaving. Have a little GHA, but nothing crazy. Everything is looking good..hopefully it will stay that way for two weeks.

Thats the one disadvantage to the Jebao. While the Jebao fits it fits tight, you need to pull out anything in the middle chamber, including the elbows to get it out.

My PRIMARY reason for going with the Jebao was the fact that I have the speed controlled by Apex which frees up one more outlet on my EB8 since it is already full up.

Got a clean-up crew today from Reef Cleaners and was extremely pleased! I ordered them way late Wednesday night and John shot me a personal e-mail to let me know he had received the order and would be shipping out the next day. The box arrived today very well packed. TONS of snails. And using the $5 coupon code on his site, I essentially got a free serpent starfish. Everything looked healthy upon arrival. Curious to see how hungry they were when the lights come on in the morning!

I got my crew from them as well. I ended up getting a mixed crew - really happy with it except that I've noticed that the Nerite snails leave small white deposits all over the tank. Also, they tend to hang out in the top corners of the tank during the lights on period. Seem to hate the light.

Well... the snails are doing their jobs. But I think I still need to do a "Reduck Reboot" and go lights-out for three days to get some of this cyano and algae backed down.

Thanks for the info on the shrimp, too. I'm going to ship the kids up to Bizacon next weekend for babysitting so we can go together and pick out "her" peppermint shrimp.

So I just finished my reboot. Three days no lights to deal with the cyano issue. First, the bacteria is definitely in remission. Three days of no lights kicks its *** pretty good. Just a litttle still visible. The bad news is I lost my fire shrimp on day 2. He just keeled over and died. Also, a few of my SPS slost color and are now showing some white where there is some die off. I'm now slowing bringing the lights back online and hoping things will recover. Going blue today and then on a 50% schedule for the next few days. Also did a water change.

Not necessary. I was not in any branch of the military. I was a civilian contractor working for RCA International Service Co. Back then (40 years ago) I had a top secret clearance. NSA clearances etc. I saw things. A lot of things. Most of which you probably saw in documentaries since they have been declassified. Missiles coming out of subs and launch pads. Ours and theirs. I saw shuttle booster tests before most of the public knew the shuttle existed. I saw the shuttle in construction. I also saw impact zones of incoming missiles and boosters through the lens of motion picture cameras and other assorted optical devices. Most people were not allowed to watch. I was part of a select few that were fortunate enough to film history. It was a very cool job. Traveling the world on a big ship. I was 21 and right out of college. If you google t-agm 10, or, USNS Vandenberg, it was the ship I worked on. It has been since scuttled, on national TV, and online, and is a reef off of key west. I even cried a little watching it go down. Someday after I retire, I'll do the dive to see it again...

Back to your regularly scheduled reef talk...

I'm about to fit (or try to fit) the eheim 2000. Wish I'd know about the sicce 2.0 but I picked up the eheim a while back. Reduck weren't you using an eheim it at one time?

White deposits? Eggs? I've seen snails leave a wake of eggs in their path..

Don't think the lights out had much to do with either the shrimp or the sps coloration. Ramp it back up slowly as planned. I'd be more concerned with why the sps is losing tissue. Water tests good? Any change before the wc?
Sorry about the shrimp. You could recycle it as fish food, but without knowing why, maybe not such a good idea...

And yes, I was using the eheim at one time. It's now my mixing pump.

And after all that, you cannot get tank to show up on time... You are dropping the ball. :). That sounds like an awesome past time for sure

Yea. I guess I am. It's not like it's life or death. It's just a fish tank :spin1:
It'll get here, when it gets here....

So I have been dealing with a few issues in the tank - mostly cyano issue and my zoas not opening up. I'm been going through everything to see if I can figure out what could be causing the latter issue (plus the sudden die off of my fire shrimp during my 3 day no lights reboot). Water is checking out great across all parameters. The only exception is that my calcium is way up (500) and my dKH was at 15. Anyone thoughts on whether this could be causing my zoas to close up?

Get a second opinion on the tests. What are you testing with?
Know any other local reefers that can recheck?
15dkh is pretty up there. I'd worry more about that than the calcium. Did it suddenly go that high or have you dosed it up to that in the course of time?
Rscp comes out fresh at about 12. Maybe a tad more.
Nitrates? 0 or slightly above? Most sps like a little nitrates, but hate a sudden drop.
Did you test the FSW? I've had bad mixes and they really can wreak havoc!

Another thing is, those shrimp are pretty sensitive to salinity changes or another changes, so it could have been the acclimation too.

Or again, we are trying to put the ocean, well a small part of it, in our living room so some things will go wrong.

One of my colleagues and best friends went with his wife and his father on a Viking cruise last year and absolutely LOVED it. They've all spent time in Europe previously but felt like the Viking experience was stellar. Highly recommended from what I hear.

Very, very cool. What a job indeed! It's always fascinated me that so much can and does go on without the vast majority of people ever knowing about it - like the shuttle being built. We live about an hour and a half away from Oak Ridge National Labs. It's still hard to comprehend how much took place without public knowledge in a little ole' town in the hills of east TN (as well as the other Manhattan Project sites).

We got married in Key West. The Key West Marriott Beachside is phenomenal. Happens to be the first place I ever had the opportunity to drink Louis XIII, too.
