Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

Reduck, missed that one on my list . . . Hermit Crab and Snail (x10 each) are being cared for by an IM Aqua Gadget Ghost Skimmer Midsize.

Rock stayed submerged entire time (they brought it in what looked like a portable tank). LFS (more of a boutique - it is an Elos Aquastudio in Short Hills, NJ - the kind of place you feel the need to get dressed up to go to, very clean and helpful staff and everything they have advised has mirrored what I have read on these hallowed "pages"). Because they did the install, they will test the water every 2-3 days in their store for free, with copies for me. We are in no rush for the cycle to end, but, liked the idea of having the tank set up by experts since this is our first saltwater tank. We want to do it correctly and responsibly the first time.

The brought the CUC for the tank after the tank passed the 24-hour test.

I believe that the following question is likely to result in the "sharknado" effect, but, hey, I live life dangerously . . .

Should we get an Apex-esque system for the tank? The LF"B" suggested holding off, but, like an albatross about my neck, the question nags at me . . .

Awesome. I'll have to take a trip up there to see. Seems like you are all set!
Looks to be set up pretty well.

Apex, yes..when you are ready, start shopping. You don't have to have it, but it sure makes life less stressful! All the good points have been discussed. Only bad point is initial cost. But well worth it!

basically the same as i mentioned for the SS pump. Remove elbows and old pump as an assembly. Drop the new pump to the bottom and fit the stock hose.
remove and clamp and drop back in and attach the elbows.
its a very tight fit but it does fit.

Sorry about the repeat post. was in the airport on flaky wifi. I pulled out the old pump - the Eheim compact 2000 has a bigger output fitting than the old pump. I going to have to pick up some bigger hose. Do you recall how you handled this?

Hi guys, what is the return pump spec that comes with the IM40? I remember seeing at the sticker it says 45W, I don't know, just seems like that is a lot of power and heat. I was wondering if I can replace it with a Maxijet 1200 (12W, 300GPH) but probably need 2.

also, I was wondering if I can grow cheato in chamber 2 or 4? I am thinking of using a light from top down. Tunze skimmer in chamber 1 but with a egg crate on the bottom of 2 with floss to catch stuff, the cheato above it. Not sure if that would work..?

If in not mistaken, I stretched it to fit in hot water.
Hate airport wifi. Hate airports worse...

It's 465gph if my memory serves me.. It would be interesting to see if two mj1200 would work, but if say just get the sicca 2.0 and call it a day...

It could probably work. You might need better containment for the chaeto though. I'd try to light it from the back. Not much light is going to make it down there where it needs to be.

Absolutely agree. I can personally attest. I haven't personally used the countertop model but did start out trying to use an undersink Watts Premier RO filter with the incredibly easy-to-use push-button cartridges. Excellent, excellent filter for drinking water. But it was slow - even with a permeate pump. Ended up being WAY too slow to keep up with making ATO and water change water.

I ended up getting the Air, Water, and Ice Typhoon 3. And like Reduck mentioned, there is a great screw-on faucet supply line attachment that will work with the RODI system of your choice. The Typhoon is making water so fast that I had a nice little puddle on the floor while I was making ATO water this evening. Still getting used to the dramatic increase in production.

SpectraPure is supposed to make some really excellent gear. My wife and I recently did a behind-the-scenes tour at Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies (fairly close to home for us, nice day trip) and I noticed a SpectraPure RODI filter in their on-site analytical lab.

I've used a unit like that. They are very very slow. For a little more $ you can grab a spectrapure refurb unit that will output a lot faster. It can be connected with sink attachment and put away after use. I did it for months, till I mounted it.
Good luck!

Awesome, thank you both. I'll be picking up that refurb SpectraPure. And Redluck, congrats on your new tank. Can't wait to watch it progress!

Thanks. Still waiting on the tank pad to get it going. Seems like all I do is wait for stuff to arrive! ...good luck with your build.

I went to the hardware store and picked up a reducing coupler. So from 3/4" to 1/2". After much (and i mean MUCH) fumbling I was able to get the new pump in and hooked up. However, I'm not sure I'm getting as much water flow as with the stock pump. Its hard to tell. Also, may be my imagination but it seems like the water level in the tank is a mm or two lower.

I don't recall using a coupler! I have to go look in the brute to see. That pump has been demoted to mixing duty. In fact the sicca is out doing the same duty. I have 2 FSW bins going at the moment. Tank has stock pump again.

I do remember the flow increase was slight...it's hard to tell unless you shut off all other pumps and watch the overflows. That's where you'll see more movement.

Ok so after a long day of swapping out pumps (and general maintenance) I had to take the Eheim 2000 compact pump back out and go back to the stock pump for now. Still trying to figure out why it is pushing less water than the stock pump - maybe because it is built to push through a 3/4" tube v. 1/2". I guess I'll have to order the Sicce 2.0. But before I do that, i see in the product description that it is also 3/4" female out. So I'd love to hear from someone who installed this pump, how they connected it to the "Y" and elbows that are definitely smaller than 3/4" (1/2" i believe). And does this restrict the pump flow in some way? I don't want to chance ordering another $80 pump and basically have the same issue I'm having with the Eheim.

Was the pump setting at max flow? It is adjustable. So is the sicca.
I'm guessing there were changes to the fittings supplied between my pump and yours or I just have no memory left. For the sicca, you definitely need to buy a threaded adapter at HD or Lowes. I'm sure of that. It's on my pump now in the brute. It only comes with larger fittings. If you go back a few pages you'll see biz's pic of that pump with the adapter and size to get.

Gentlemen and Mrs. Fish....Go order the Sicce Syncra Silent 2.0. It works perfectly for the tank...I might even turn down the flow a little.

Installation is easy. You slide down the pump and then put on the male adapter. I went to home depot and got a 3/4 in x 1/2 in reducer that you see in the picture. The output tubes are 1/2 in. Got that down in there...going to be easy to pull out and clean.

It is quiet and is a much improvement improvement from the OEM pump and the Eheim +2000.

Enjoy..

Here's the post from earlier...

And here's mine. Just pulled it out of the brute to make sure. It's just missing its feet. I hate when it sticks to the bottom of the brute...
The eheim is still running at the bottom so no pic of that.

Is there Syncra much quieter than the stock pump?

A little quieter. I never thought the stock pump was loud though.

Thank you Reduck. I would love for you to check out the tank when there is more to see.

I meant Elos Aqua Studio. Never been there and heard good things about it.
